THREE QUESTIONS FOR ANDREAS HELLER, ARCHITECT OF THEWÄLDERHAUS IN HAMBURG

It is light and dark that makes the forest attractive. What is the significance / importance of this when it comes to the architecture of the Wälderhaus? The architecture of the building refracts the daylight on to different areas. Just as in a rough block of wood, they provide a fascinating interplay between light and dark. The specially designed LED lights in the communal and dining areas pick up the forest theme. The 150 or so glass elements suspended from the ceiling are reminiscent of drops of resin.

Where and how do textiles contribute to the interplay between light and dark? They offer protection from the sun while at the same time transmitting light in the offices, allow dimming in event and seminar rooms and also achieve improved acoustics. In addition, they enable the user to control the lighting individually. The curtains, composed of several colours, form not least a subtle response to the exposed concrete in the event rooms.

What were the factors that made you turn to Création Baumann? Our technical requirements were met by Création Baumann and verified by test certificates. Thanks to their impressively diverse and carefully developed range of colours we were able to bring the fabric used completely in line with our design concept.

Day and night, seeing and concealing. Just as in nature these contrasts also play a key role in interior design. This is partic- ularly true for a multi-functional building such as the Wälderhaus, where light control intensifies the experience. This is why Hamburg’s newest architectural gem turned to Création Baumann when it came to textile furnishings. In a world where an increasing number of light sources encounter increasingly open spaces we offer the best solutions for dimming, and light and glare protection. Whether you want dim-out or black-out: thanks to collections such as Dimmer, Phantom, Mystery, Oscura and Sonic, our collection offers a unique and versatile range of dimming fabrics – each perfectly designed, easy to wash, flame-retardant and with impressively good acoustic qualities. An individual solution? We’d be happy to provide one.
