FOUR FAMILIES – ONE wORLd. Welcome at Gaulhofer. Or rather: Welcome at family Brunner, family Kroich, family Dorner-Bleil and family Höfler. Four totally different families – exactly like the four window types from Gaulhofer which you have chosen for your home. Glassline, wood/aluminium, wood and plastic. One thing, however, our families have in common: They gladly extend an invitation to their home to tell you about the place where they feel most comfortable: within their own four walls. Just ring their doorbell. They will gladly welcome you and tell you about their personal experiences, their living situation and how Gaulhofer made a small contribution to making their home what it is today: a place of warmth and security for the entire family.

Christoph Dorner-Bleil on the generously dimensioned Glassline windows from Gaulhofer:

a good bottle of wine. That is what makes a Saturday evening absolutely perfect. When you can

lean back after a hard week’s work, put your feet up and enjoy the open view over the entire city. To be

honest, too much wood would disturb this pleasant setting. and, anyway, it’s not really needed. Back when we were

building our house, our architect recommended the Glassline windows. The windows almost

disappear in the facade and you are simply left with huge glass areas. This blends beautifully with all

the other Design in the house. at our house everything is pure and reduced. in the office where i work

everything is designed in dark wood and heavy, oppressive colours. maybe that is why we decided on these clear and

bright textures.

It is really bright in our home. The Glassline-windows allow 10 % more light to

enter the house, which makes the entire climate totally friendly and comfortable. Which means

that you look forward to this every time you come home. also our friends seem to feel very com-

fortable in our home. They immediately volunteer when we need a catsitter for our Minka when

we go on holiday. And, of course, Minka too enjoys her life with us to the full: she lazes in front

of the window and lets the sun shine in her face. Sometimes you feel like swapping places

with her. But then i could not raise glasses with marina and drink such a nice drop. Both to our lovely home and the fact that we have a cleaning lady. By the way, she too is happy about our large glass areas – because they are so easy to clean.

Ingrid Kroich about her family and living with wood/aluminium windows:

“My home is my castle.” Generally I do not care much for such kitshy sayings, but our house has become a real fairytale castle. I dreamt about this when I was still playing with

my doll‘s house. And now our children play with their dolls. How time flies. But I really

wanted to tell you about what made my husband and I decide on wood/aluminium windows

from Gaulhofer. Wood was extremely important for me right from the start. There is nothing that is as natural and radiates so much warmth. For my husband Gerhard it was important

that the windows have triple glazing and especially, that they cause no work. Also that they

do not weather and that he does not need to paint them. And with the wood/aluminium

windows we have exactly what we wanted.

It became clear relatively quickly that our home would have wood/aluminium windows.

Wood and aluminium simply go together.r That it would be Gaulhofer wood/aluminium

windows was a later decision. An acquaintance recommended them to us. He explained that a lot

of manufacturers use less wood for the wooden part of the window and fill the rest with foam

material. At Gaulhofer, however, solid, high-quality wood from Austria is used. And

the difference here is very similar to that between closing the door of a Mercedes and the door

of a Trabi.

So, we didn‘t have to deliberate long before making our decision. And now everything

is perfect, just as it is: While inside we have a superbly comfortable atmosphere with wood and the glazing bars and outside the aluminium shell, which on the

one hand is really hard wearing, and on the other hand simply looks beautiful. But please don‘t ask me about any of the technical data. Just flip through the pages.

Helmut Brunner on the naturalness of wood windows:

“Granddad, when will you pick us up again?” My wife and I wouldn‘t mind if our grandchildren could stay

with us throughout the whole year. I think that they really feel comfortable here with us in the country.

Here they can grow up in a natural environment. There is a large garden in which they can play, and they

are very excited about our “wooden house”, as Stefan always calls it. They are not used to this in the city. We,

of course, wouldn‘t have anything but wood. Especially for our windows. One really has a special feeling of comfort when one sits inside the warm living room and the icy wind whistles past

outside. It is especially nice since we have renovated. We have always had wood windows

in the past, yet with the technology that is available for today‘s modern windows, that really is something

special. They are sealed tight, they don‘t mist up and they last forever. Our grandchildren will benefit from this even 30 years from now.

The idea to renovate came from my wife, Waltraud. After the kids had grown up and had

moved to the city the huge house was suddenly completely empty. “Why don‘t we renovate and run a

little breakfast guest house?”, she said back then.

“We live amid natural surroundings, this will always attract guests.” So we took out

the old windows, installed new Gaulhofer wood windows including window shutters

and converted the children‘s rooms into guest rooms. It was really simple: Our expert partner from Gaulhofer gave us really good advice and the installation was really

fast and uncomplicated – and especially clean. This is also how we brought nature into the house. And our guests really like it here. They not only enjoy the breakfast with

Waltraud‘s home-made marmalades, bur also the comfortable relaxing atmosphere in our

house. That is the beauty about wood. everyone immediately feels at home. One couple

that has been coming here for years has even had Gaulhofer windows installed in their

home in Holland, that is how enthusiastic they were.

There is nothing like a pleasant home.

The same applies to wood windows from Gaulhofer, for which we have for the last 90 years exclusively used indigenous larch and spruce felled in the winter and from sustainably managed forests. Both are as natural and beautiful as they are sturdy and tough. “too much work”, is what i thought when we looked at an old house somewhere in the country back then. and there

we also immediately decided to build a new house according to the most modern standards rather

than to experience one nasty surprise after another. and not long after that we actually found a building site on the

internet we fell in love with. close to the city, a small garden – just perfect for the three of us.

and now we have our little house in green surroundings. and all the necessary trappings. and, that

Gaulhofer Energyline plastic windows would be a part of it we agreed on right

from the very start. they create a really pleasant atmosphere. especially in the summer when it gets

too hot outside for our little ones. then the windows turn into real cooling units and you save the

see, my husband is a musician. and when our little one has his midday nap on the terrace and my husband practices his

trombone inside and wakes him, the tranquillity in the green surroundings comes to an abrupt halt.

While we at Gaulhofer have not invented windows we have

made them the object of systematic research and development

for the benefit of our customers. My grandfather, who started

with the production of windows, doors and furniture in 1919,

lived by the guiding principle: “Gaulhofer stands for quality, the

COMPLICATED TECHNOLOGY EXPLAINED IN SIMPLE TERMS.Windows play an important role in the room temperature of buildings and the comfort of its occupants. Many customers get confused due to the many parameters that need to be considered when purchasing windows. this need not be, however, since things are actually quite simple. When purchasing a window today you can expect numerous requirements:

that they are sealed tight.that the energy loss from the interior to the exterior is as small as possible and helps to save heating costs.that they win as much warmth as possible from the natural rays of the sun.that they protect against noise to give you peace and quiet within your four walls.

the structural parameters uW and rW apply to single-casement windows of medium size (123 x 148 cm) for vertical installation. For other frame dimensions or type there can be slight differences in parameters.

the better the windows is sealed the less exchange of air there is via the joints between the frame and casement, and the lower the value of its joint permeability, which is also called the a-value. this value indicates how many cubic metres of air per hour are lost per lin. metre of joint. the lower the a-value, the better is your window. the a-value of Gaulhofer windows is 0.02 m3/hm, and is therefore ten times better than required. In turn, the importance of proper ventilation increases. the exchange of air necessary for a pleasant room climate during the use of the living room is attained through several ventilati-on surges during the day.

the better the thermal insulation of your window the less energy escapes via frame, casement and glass from the interior to the exterior. this is measured with the so-called u-value, the heat transmission coefficient. the smaller the u-value of your window the better the contribution of your window to the energy balance of the building. the deciding factor for you, the window‘s total u-value – the u-value –, indicates how well your window protects against energy loss overall. It is derived from 2 partial values: the ug-value, which relates to the glass only, and the uf-value, which indicates the heat transmission through the frame. Old dual-pane windows have a uW-value of around 3.0 W/m2K, windows with insulation glazing from 2.8–3.0 W/m2K. Quality windows with heat protection glass today have a maximum u-value of 1.2 W/m2K.

the heat insulation of your windows and doors also depends on the percentage of solar energy which enters the interior of the room via the window. the energy from the sunlight entering additionally serves as room heating and lowers heating costs. It is measured with the g-value as percentage of the quantity of solar energy existing in the open air. the higher the total energy transmittance in % of a window, the higher the energy you can save via the window.

also the quantity of light that your windows and doors allow to enter the interior is significant for the comfort felt. the light transmittance is measured by means of the light transmittance value tl and indicates how many percent of the light sur-rounding your house enter into the interior of the room. the higher the tl-value, the brighter the interior..

Your windows and doors also play an important role in sound insulation. the sound reduction index of a window measures the difference between the sound level outside and inside and displays it in dB (decibel). For example, if a car passes your house with a decibel level of 100 dB and you only hear 65 dB inside with the window closed, the window has a sound reduction index rW of 35 dB. the higher the sound reduction index of a window, the better the sound insulation.

ROLLER SHUTTERS. Whether you are building, converting or renovating, at Gaulhofer

you will find the right roller shutter which we will supply to you installed on your window, your French door, your lift and slide door or one of the other Gaulhofer panorama elements.

The entry of light and the room temperature are controlled entirely according to your requirements: The heat remains outside in the summer and inside in the winter. and even when you need to let air in during a heavy thunderstorm, you only need to lift the roller shutter high enough to free the ventilation slots between the slats.

Gaulhofer roller shutters have shafts mounted on ball bearings to make opening and closing easier. also crank drive or electric drive is available to make operation easier.For protection against annoying pests you can select the integra-ted insect screen.

VENETIAN SHUTTERS. Gaulhofer Venetian shutters with their wide and robust alumini-

um slats offer a large variety of design options. They are available in countless colours with multi-coloured aluminium shades, with plaster bases, as front-mounted Venetian shutters and as top-mounted Venetian shutters.

You can open and close the Venetian shutters to any extent, set them at almost any angle to regulate the brightness in the room. This gives you the desired privacy even when the slats are open.

Gaulhofer Venetian shutters can be operated by hand or electrically and remote controlled for greater operating comfort. if you combine Gaulhofer roller shutters and Venetian shutters you only require a single transmitter to operate the roller shutters and Venetian shutters together.

The Gaulhofer insect screen fully addresses your requirements. The huge range of designs corresponds to the huge range of Gaulhofer windows, doors and panorama elements.

The flexibly usable fixed stentering frames are particularly easy to install, the tilt frames impress with their elegance: They have frames supported on the exterior and one or two sashes with mag-netic locks which allow access as required.

Tilt frames can be opened toward the outside or the inside. They are best suited for all elements with roller shutters, window shutters and Venetian shutters.

The movable Gaulhofer insect screen sliding frame makes life more pleasant for you, without tormentors, with lift and slide doors and other panorama elements. The easy-slide frames are available in single- or double-sash design, depending on the size of your Gaulhofer panorama elements.

Gaulhofer insect screen shutters appeal due to their aesthetics and functionality. The shutters which open from the side (in the

FOR 90 YEARS WINDOWS FROM A NOBLE FAMILY.1919

Karl Gaulhofer founds a carpentry and furniture manufacturing business in Frohnleiten, Styria, which soon enjoys a special reputation beyond the region.

1929The success of the company leads to the continuous expansion of production

capacities. Karl Gaulhofer acquires a larger operating site and thereon erects a new factory and administration building.

1954Graduate engineer Karl Gaulhofer takes over his father‘s operation after completing

his architectural studies. in the following years the quickly expanding company soon extends its reputation nationally in all sectors (furniture, interior construction,

windows and doors) by means of prestigious major projects. This includes, among others, the entire wood work connected with the general renovations of the Graz

theatre, interior reconstruction, windows and doors for the main railway station in Graz as well as numerous community and social residential buildings.

1963Gaulhofer becomes aware of the signs of the times and is the first one in austria to start

with the industrial production of standard windows and doors. already in the very first year the successive build-up of a nation-wide sales distribution network begins.

1972To do justice to the spatial expansion, a closed-down company premises is acquired

in Übelbach on which a state-of-the-art production facility comes into being.1975

The company‘s main operation is transferred to Übelbach. Window production is booming. Gaulhofer in the meantime employs nearly 200 workers.

1978due to the collaboration with S+S Qualitätsfenster Gmbh, with their headquarters in

anzing, near Munich, the first step is taken to expand beyond the borders of austria and with it the build-up of an additional sales organisation for export.

1985From now on Gaulhofer relies exclusively on a dealer distribution system for the sale

of its products. With the interfenster aG in Oensingen near Zürich the Switzerland sales branch starts up its operation

1987Gaulhofer acquires the firm Gächter in Mäder, Vorarlberg, a renowned window manufacturer in this region.1988The Gaulhofer plastic windows produced at this new Mäder location are released on the market. at its locations Frohnleiten, Übelbach and Mäder the company employs around 650 workers by the end of the 1980s.1990Jointly with its German sales partners, Gaulhofer acquires the hermsdorfer holzwerke in Thuringia. in inzersdorf, Vienna, the new sales distribution branch is opened which Gaulhofer uses to enlarge its customers base in the austrian market.1997a new generation of windows is ushered in: Gaulhofer is the first manufacturer to offer wood/aluminium windows for the large private customer market.2000Gaulhofer opens a further location in Wels, Upper austria, and in the meantime counts among the major suppliers in europe.2004The demand for Gaulhofer windows and doors increases and leads to a continuously rising export quota. The sales partner network extends from Japan to canada.2005With GlaSSline Gaulhofer introduces the first window revolution of the new millennium on the market. With its innovative gluing technology GlaSSline does justice technically and aesthetically to the demands of discerning Gaulhofer customers. 2007The Gaulhofer eneRGYline window sets new standards for protection of the environment and the saving of energy. With the optimum UW-value of 0.58 W/m2K the eneRGYline becomes the industry leader.2008With dr. Manfred Gaulhofer becoming the managing director the Gaulhofer group of companies continues its tradition as family business.2009in the 90th year since its founding Gaulhofer is once again a step ahead in development: With the edition 90 ecOline WindOW Gaulhofer for the first time makes it possible to save energy with natural and biologically practical insulating material.
