Class of 2012 by the Numbers• 275 students began the admissions process,

with 125 completing the application.

• 66 students were admitted in Spring 2010. 40 counties are represented among the class.

• Class of 2012 members scored an average composite of 29.0 on the ACT.

• Class of 2012 members scored an average of 29.5 on the math section of the ACT.

Academics• The core of the Gatton Academy curriculum

consists of 12 courses in mathematics and science.

• Gatton Academy students complete a minimum slate of math courses in Computational Problem Solving, Trigonometry, as well as Calculus I and II.

• Student take five courses in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Physics in addition to four other science and math electives.

• Students continue to take additional coursework

to meet all pre-college requirements.

• The core of the Gatton Academy curriculum consists of 12 courses in mathematics and science.

• Gatton Academy students complete a minimum slate of math courses in Computational Problem Solving, Trigonometry, as well as Calculus I and II.

student body will engage in faculty-sponsored scientific research.

• 11 Academy students have been selected to participatein the HHMI National Genomics Research Initiative.

• Students have presented research at state, national, and international conferences as emerging scholars in their disciplines.

Student Life• The Gatton Academy provides a

rich living/learning environment designed specifically for adolescent students.

• Extra-curricular activities include mock trial, YMCA, student government, KYA/KUNA, FBLA, marching band, HOSA, children’s theater, men’s and women’s choir, and more.

• Academy students logged over 2000 hours of service learning, an average of 1 full day per student.

• The Gatton Academy provides a rich living/learning environment designed specifically for adolescent students.

• Extra-curricular activities include mock trial, YMCA, student government, KYA/KUNA, FBLA, marching band, HOSA, children’s theater, men’s and women’s choir, and more.

• Academy students logged over 2000 hours of service learning, an average of 1 full day per student.

International Reach• Winter Term experiences abroad have

focused on Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and France.

• In 2011, 16 Academy students will conduct a biological field study at Cloudbridge Nature Preserve in Costa Rica. Others will have the opportunity to study literature at Harlaxton College in England.

• Rebecca Brock was awarded a DAAD RISE scholarship to study in Germany.

• 4 students and 2 alumni are participants in the prestigious Chinese Flagship Program at WKU.

• Winter Term experiences abroad have focused on Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and France.

Admissions

Applicants must submit the following materials:

• A complete transcript of high school coursework;

• The student response portion of the Gatton Academy Admissions Packet;

• An official ACT or SAT score report to WKU;

• Four letters of recommendation; and

• A personal interview with Gatton Academy staff members and other Kentucky representatives.

• The 51 members of the Class of 2010 were offered $10.3 million in scholarships and accepted over $3.5 million in scholarships.

• 10 members of the class were selected as National Merit finalists.

• 3 out of 5 continued their undergraduate education in the state of Kentucky.
