Why Did I Become an Engineer?
• Stable Home & No-nonsense parents
• Good in Math & Science
• Went to an Engineering High School
• Electrical Engineering had a nice *ring* to it
• Felt like I was smart
• Could make some “good money”

• The average mathematics scores of 4th & 8th grade students increased from 1990 to 2003
• Despite the improvements, most students do not demonstrate solid mathematics skills and knowledge for their grade
• 4th & 8th average science scores did not change; 12th grade declined from 1996 to 2000
• Students eligible for free or reduced lunch were at least three times less likely to score at or above the proficient level for their grade
