To do this, we have partnered with businesses and industries to ensure that we are providing the most recent high-tech, state-of-the-art career training facilities, equipment and instruction. LOWER TUITION RATES

TRANSFER OPTIONS

GateWay offers courses, programs and associate degree that are guaranteed to transfer to any one of Arizona’s three state universities (see page 11). Always check with an advisor, as some courses and programs may transfer to other colleges and universities nationwide.

SMALLER CLASS SIZE

Most classes average 20-30 students in size at GateWay,whereas the same lower-division class at a university may average100-125 students. A smaller class size increases the instructor’s opportunity to assist students on a one-on-one basis.

LIGHT RAIL

The METRO Light Rail is a 20-milesystem that consists of 50 trains,28 stations and eight ‘park and ride’ facilities, with one located adjacent to campus. Trains operate approximately 20 hours a day, stopping at stations every ten minutes during regular business hours.

GateWay Community College is centrally located on an urban campus in Phoenix, Arizona. As the only community college with a METRO Light Rail stop on campus, getting here is easier than ever. ATHLETICS

Athletics are a point of pride for all schools and GateWay is pleased to offer several sports for you to enhance your athletic performance, meet new friends and possibly partially fund your college education through scholarship opportunities. The GateWay Gecko’s athletic programs compete within the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Region I and the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC). GateWay offers the following athletic programs:

ASSESSMENT/TESTING

If you are planning to enroll in an English, math or reading course, you may be required to take a placement test. Test scores are used to decide which courses to take. The Testing Center also provides academic and vocational testing to help students accomplish their educational goals. Testing services include:

FINANCIAL AID

Several options to finance your education exist, with some requiring no re-payment of funds:

Funds that do not have to be repaid as long as you adhere to the requirements issued by the grantor.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Funds granted based on need and/or merit. These funds generally do not require repayment.

Do you need help deciding where to start or which classes to take? Our advisors are prepared to help you in a variety of ways and recommend meeting with you each semester. Advisors can:

LEARNING CENTER

The Learning Center offers academic support services to help GateWay students become successful learners. Individual tutoring is available by appointment in a variety of subject areas as well as study and learning strategies. Drop-in tutoring is also available for math, writing, chemistry, physics and biology during designated hours. CHILDREN’S LEARNING CENTER

GateWay’s on-campus Children’s Learning Center provides a safe, caring environment for students’ children at a reasonable cost while they are enrolled in classes. Hours are extended to serve students during intersessions and breaks to accommodate students’ clinical, work and study schedules. Afterschool childcare and tutoring is also available for school age children during the fall and spring semesters. The center also conducts a variety of summer camps for children ages 5-12. The AGEC is a block of 35 required credits that satisfies the general curriculum requirements and may be applied to the graduation requirements for the majority of Arizona university majors. Are you looking to complete a two-year transfer degree? GateWay offers the AA, AS and ABUS Degrees that transfer in full to any of Arizona’s public universities. Built into these degrees is the appropriate AGEC transfer block. The AA, AS and ABUS degrees generally provide the core classes needed to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

MARICOPA-ASU PATHWAYS PROGRAM (MAPP)

The MAPP is a partnership with Arizona State University that outlines specific courses to be taken at the community college level in preparation for specific bachelor’s degree program at ASU. There are currently more than 80 MAPPs to choose from with more being developed over time. Each MAPP has an associate’s degree built into it along with the desired grade point average needed to enter the advanced degree program at ASU.

The MAPP provides meaningful incentives for students who complete an AGEC and associate’s degree. You who complete an AGEC and associate’s degree. You must see a community college advisor to sign up for a MAPP in order to be eligible for the benefits.

The AGS degree is designed for students whose educational goals require flexibility. Most credits are transferable.

Scopists make any necessary edits, ensure the transcript is in the requested formats and send the transcript back to the court reporter. In the case of simultaneous display, scopists make corrections or highlight any questions as the transcript scrolls on the computer screen.

Scoping is an ideal career for a person who needs or prefers to work at home.

All the work is completed using computer software that can easily be transferred via online services.

HOW TO GET STARTED

GateWay offers a Certificate of Completion in Realtime Reporting - Scoping and is the only community college Scoping and is the only community college Scopingin Arizona approved by the National Court Reporters Association to offer this certificate. The scoping program can be completed in one year for quick entry into the job market. When you have completed your program, you will be prepared to find employment as a Scopist for court reporters. Hydrologic Technicians’ primary job duties are to monitor the quality and quantity of surface and ground water, take samples and flow measurements, install gauges and survey cross sections of water ways. Data is then recorded and analyzed to determine if the water meets national and state standards and for historical records.

To succeed in this career you will need to acquire science and math skills as well as a thorough knowledge of the water cycle,

Considered an integral part of the healthcare team, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) work under the direct supervision of registered nurses and/

or physicians. LPNs perform many duties including assisting patients with activities of daily living, taking vital signs, observing patients, dressing wounds and administering medications. Individuals interested in becoming a licensed practical nurse should have a sincere interest in caring for people, display professional behaviors and possess sound judgment as it will be their responsibility to provide basic bedside care for patients who may be experiencing substantial alterations in health.

Employment opportunities exist in many different work settings such as hospitals, clinics, homes, extended care facilities and nursing homes.

HOW TO GET STARTED

GateWay Community College offers the Certificate of Completion in Practical Nursing through the Fast Track Practical Nursing through the Fast Track Practical NursingNursing Program. The design of the curriculum permits an economical and efficient method of education to prepare the graduate to sit for the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-PN) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Licensing requirements are the exclusive responsibility of the Arizona State Board of Nursing. Applicants may enter the Fast Track Practical Nursing Program after completing the required prerequisites.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK

Nursing homes and home health care services will offer the most job opportunities for LPNs. In Arizona, Practical Nurse positions are expected to increase 15 % or more by 2018. Practical Nurses earn an average hourly rate of $22.01 for an annual salary of $45,789.

LIGHT RAIL

El METRO Light Rail es un sistema de20-millas que consiste de 50 trenes, 28 estaciones y ocho comodidades de ‘park and ride’ donde los pasajeros pueden estacionar su vehículo y luego hacer uso del transporte público. Los trenes funcionan aproximadamente 20 horas al día, parando en las estaciones cada diez minutos durante las horas regulares de trabajo.

ATLETISMO

El atletismo es un punto de orgullo para todas las escuelas. GateWay se complace en ofrecer varios deportes para que usted pueda mejorar su rendimiento deportivo, crear nuevas amistades y posiblemente financiar su educación universitaria en parte a través de becas. Centro también realice una serie de campamentos de verano para niños entre los 3-12 años de edad. Actividades y materiales se proporcionan para ayudar a cada niño a desarrollarse mental, social, física y emocionalmente. El Centro de Aprendizaje proporciona apoyo académico en una variedad de temas como matemáticas, ingles, biología, y más. El Centro de Computación ofrece acceso a 50 computadoras con mesas separadas en un lugar bien iluminado, tranquilo y moderno de configuración disponibles para los estudiantes. El Centro de Aprendizaje Para Niños en GateWay provee especial cuidado y un ambiente seguro para los hijos de los estudiantes a un costo razonable mientras se encuentran matriculados en las clases. ABOUT GATEWAY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

As one of the Maricopa Community Colleges, GateWay Community College is a fully accredited public institution of higher education emphasizing both academic and career-training programs. GateWay offers more than 125 degree, certificate and workforce training options in the following areas: Apprenticeships, Automotive, Business, Environment, Healthcare, Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Liberal Arts, Math and Science, and Nursing and has emerged as a leading institution in meeting the needs of business and industry. As a division of the College, the Maricopa Skill Center offers 16 self-paced, entry-level vocational training programs. GateWay is also home to GateWay Early College High School which provides students with the opportunity to earn a high
