BLESSED ELIZABETH OF THE TRINITY
Our Lady Help of
Persecuted Christians . . . Created by Italian icono-
grapher Fabrizio Diomedi,
this icon depicts the Blessed
Mother, with the Child Jesus
over her heart, spreading her
protective mantle around a
representative gathering of
recent Christian martyrs—
men and women, young and
old, from East and West;
priests, religious and laypersons, including one of the six
priest-members of the Knights of Columbus who were
killed by the Mexican government in the first half of the
20th century. The four crosses represent an “ecumenism
of blood” among martyrs of Roman and Eastern Catholi-
cism, as well as those of Coptic, Armenian, Syriac and
Orthodox traditions. Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians
icon is the centerpiece of the world-wide Knights of
Columbus Marian Prayer Program and during a private
audience with the Holy Sepulchre,
Pope Francis gave it his blessing.
The Our Lady Help of Persecuted
Christians icon will arrive at
Gate of Heaven Parish on
June 16 and remain through
June 30. On Thursday, June
20, Fr. Schultz will offer the
first of two noon Masses for
Our Lady Help of Persecuted
Christians. It will be celebrated at All Saints Church in
Lancaster. On Friday, June 21, the second noon Mass
will be held at St. Matthew Church in Whitefield. The
Knights of Columbus will pass out special Our Lady Help
of Persecuted Christians before each Mass. On Monday, June
24, there will be a Mass at 6:00 p.m. at St. Agnes fol-
lowed by the Rosary. On Tuesday, June 25, the Mass will
be at 6:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, followed by the
Rosary.
This beautiful icon is on a pilgrimage to promote awareness
of the plight of Christians persecuted for their faith and to
stand in solidarity with them. It is a reminder that we should
pray for Mary’s intercession for protection and deliverance
from persecution for Christians in the Middle East and
around the world. Our parish has been favored with this
special visit. Please add your prayers for these intentions.
Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession . . . Dear Parishioners,
Next weekend, Sunday, June 23, is the Solemnity of
Corpus Christi (The Body and Blood of Jesus Christ).
Immediately following the 10:30 a.m. Mass, Gate of
Heaven Parish will have a Eucharistic Procession
down Main Street in Lancaster in honor of the im-
portant Solemnity. We will process out of All Saints
Church and head to the center of Lancaster where we
will have benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
The Feast of Corpus Christi dates to the 12th century
and soon after was often accompanied by Eucharistic
processions. Please join me in this holy event where
we will give witness to our faith in Our Lord’s true
presence in the Eucharist and ask him to bless us, our
parish and our land. After the procession, Izabela
Southworth has graciously agreed to put on a lunch-
eon in All Saints church hall. I am sure she would
appreciate any help you could offer!
In Jesus and Mary,
Fr. Schultz

On behalf of Deacon
Mike and myself, I

last week’s festivities
at Our Lady of the
Mountains Shrine. In particular, I would like
to thank the Vocations Ministry team who did

beautiful and grace-filled event and I was
especially blessed that my good parents were
in attendance as well! Thank you, dear parish-
ioners, for all of your support and especially
for your prayers. It has made this last year
such a blessing. May the Good Lord reward
and bless you for your kindness. Fr. Schultz

Weekly Readings The Holy Trinity, June 16, 2019 DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Proverbs 8: 22-31 / Psalm 8: 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 / Romans 5: 1-5 / John 16: 12-15
“The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to
us.” With these words, St. Paul captures the essence of this solemnity and shows that the path to
understand the Trinity is through the experience of love. At the heart of God is a bond of love among
the Father, Son and Spirit. God’s love is communicated through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Each of the readings today offers an insight into the life of the Trinity. While the precision of the Trin-
itarian language will only come to completion in later centuries, the foundation for this belief is evident
in today’s readings. In the Book of Proverbs God the Creator brings all things into being through his
wisdom like a master ‘craftsman.” The imagery of wisdom “playing before God” conveys God’s joy, excitement, and love over
his creation.
Paul’s letter to the Romans captures the essence of our Catholic faith by stressing that it is through our Lord Jesus Christ that we
have been justified and have been brought into a relationship of peace with God. God’s love for us is poured into us through the
Holy Spirit.
“Everything that the Father has is mine,” Jesus says in the Gospel. “The Spirit of truth” will take from what is Jesus’ and com-
municate it to his followers. The Trinity is a communion of love: God’s love comes to us from the Father through his Son Jesus
and is communicated to us in the Holy Spirit. The Church professed these New Testament thoughts at the Council of Constanti-
nople II: ‘one God and Father from whom all things are, and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and one Holy
Spirit in whom all things are” (DS, 421)
1.) If the Father, Son and Spirit are in a communion of love, what is our relationship to be to all of humankind?
2.) How does the concept of love guide you toward understanding the mystery of the Holy Trinity?
3.) Which Person of the Trinity do you relate to the most often?
Sanctuary Candle During the month of June the sanctu-
ary candle in all Saints Church will burn
in loving memory of all deceased
members of the Tabernacle Society
as requested by the TABS. At St. Agnes
Church the sanctuary candle will burn
in loving memory of Daniel Stiles as
requested by Don & Sandra Doolan.
Catholic Charities Appeal . . . Our annual Catholic Charities Appeal is in full swing. If
you would like to make a pledge or a donation to the
work that is being done in our community, you can find
an envelope at the entrances of the church. Your contri-
bution toward this wonderful Catholic organization helps
so many folks in our own back yard. We thank you for
your continued support throughout the years, and for
your gift toward this year’s appeal. Thank you.
Catholic Women’s Group . . . The Catholic Women’s Group will hold its monthly meet-
ing on Tuesday, June 25, at 6:00 p.m. in the rectory at St.
Matthew. We would love to have the women of the parish
join us. You are all most welcome!
