211103REV0.0 SOLTEQ-QVF TM Equipment for Engineering Education & Research GAS ABSORPTION UNIT MODEL: BP 751 HE Gas Absorption Unit (Model: BP 751-B) is a floor standing pilot scale unit developed primarily for teaching, training and research on the basic and advanced principles of gas absorption. It is suitable for demonstration on the absorption of gas from a gas mixture (e.g. CO 2 -air) into a liquid T solvent in packed columns. The unit comes complete with a column packed with Raschig ring, a feed tank, a feed pump, a differential pressure measurement and flow measurements for the gases and liquid streams. Students shall be able to study the hydrodynamic of the pack columns as well as the effects of various process parameters on the absorption efficiency. This unit is designed to operate at atmospheric conditions in a continuous operation. During the absorption process the soluble components of a gas mixture are dissolved in a liquid phase. The gas mixture and liquid solvent will flow counter-currently among the column packings. This will enable the contacting and development of interfacial surface between the gas and liquid phases, through which mass transfer can take place. In this unit the solvent is circulated from a sump tank using a centrifugal pump into the top of the absorption column. Pure gas is mixed with air at the desired composition before being fed into the bottom of the selected column. Counter-current flow among the packings will cause the transfer of gas from the air mixture into the solvent.

    GAS ABSORPTION UNITMODEL: BP 751

HE Gas Absorption Unit (Model: BP 751-B) is a floor standing pilot scale unit developed primarily

for teaching, training and research on the basic and advanced principles of gas absorption. It is

suitable for demonstration on the absorption of gas from a gas mixture (e.g. CO2-air) into a liquid

    T

solvent in packed columns. The unit comes complete with a column packed with Raschig ring, a feed tank,

a feed pump, a differential pressure measurement and flow measurements for the gases and liquid streams.

Students shall be able to study the hydrodynamic of the pack columns as well as the effects of various process

    parameters on the absorption efficiency.

This unit is designed to operate at atmospheric

conditions in a continuous operation. During the

absorption process the soluble components of a gas

mixture are dissolved in a liquid phase. The gas

mixture and liquid solvent will flow counter-currently

among the column packings. This will enable the

contacting and development of interfacial surface

between the gas and liquid phases, through which

mass transfer can take place. In this unit the

solvent is circulated from a sump tank using a

centrifugal pump into the top of the absorption

column. Pure gas is mixed with air at the desired

composition before being fed into the bottom of

the selected column. Counter-current flow among

the packings will cause the transfer of gas from the

    air mixture into the solvent.

The lean air mixture will exit at the top of the column

whereas the gas rich solvent will flow out from the

bottom of the column back into the sump tank.

The unit has the following special features, which are

of particular value in training and research situations:

Instrumentations to allow for data collection andanalysis.

Glass columns permit good visual monitoring ofthe process.

Sampling points are provided for compositionanalysis.

    EXPERIMENTAL CAPABILITIES

Gas absorption in packed column using liquidsolvents.

Mass and energy balance calculations for theabsorption process.

Determination of the absorption coefficient andnumber of theoretical stages.

Effect of gas/liquid flow rates and composition onthe absorption efficiency.
