Only Cisco was in the Leader quadrant.Glass ceiling at 5% revenue share, a true challenger hadnt emerged. In 2008, HP ProCurve and Foundry just crossed the borders to leadership. In 2010, HP changed the landscape with the acquisition of 3Com.

The Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It depicts Gartners analysis of how certain vendors measure against criteria for that marketplace, as defined by Gartner. Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in the Magic Quadrant, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors placed in the Leaders quadrant.

However, the recent completion of the 3Com acquisition completely changes the face of the enterprise networking market. Combining the clear No. 2 and No. 3 players in the market results in a new network powerhouse that collectively shipped more than 36% of the medium and large enterprise LAN ports during 2009, compared with 51% for Cisco and only 2.9% for the No. 3 player Avaya (Nortel). Consider HP for all LAN switching opportunities in the LAN edge, LAN core and data center. Every organization should at least consider and competitively include HP on its network evaluations. Publication Date: 10 June 2010/ID Number: G00200240 Page 13 of 16 2010 Gartner, Inc. and/or its Affiliates. All Rights Reserved. Strengths Strengths HP now has a complete, end-to-end LAN switching portfolio that can address the needs of all organizations from small to large enterprises, from the LAN edge to the network core and into the data center. The continued integration of HP Networking into the HP Enterprise Servers Storage and Networking (ESSN) organization provides HP with a extremely large sales force and complete global reach. The combination of a large, productive R&D organization based in China and HP's supply chain and design expertise offers a potentially disruptive force that can change the economics of the enterprise networking marketplace. Lifetime hardware warranties, software upgrades and business-day telephone support across much of the portfolio ensure that HP's longer-term maintenance costs are the lowest in the industry. HP offers the most complete integration of wired and wireless solutions in the market. The WLAN portfolio includes the integration of controller functionality into its switches, as well as a converged network management and security functionality for single pane of glass management. They are well-positioned to continue their growth at the edge of the network. HP Networking has the ability to leverage the global capabilities and experience provided by Technology Services and Enterprise Services (previously EDS), both of which have been large partners for other major vendors.

Cautions Integration of the two product offerings will take some time and, to date, it is not clear how they will serve the respective installed bases and ultimately provide an integrated enterprise solution. Some products will have to be de-emphasized during the transition. The combined portfolio is large, and even with the positioning of the A- E- and V- series offerings, there can be too much choice and potential confusion between similar offerings in the A- and E- series. HP must ensure that it provides appropriate guidance and accelerates its solutions focus to maximize clarity to customers and partners. HP's enterprise sales force has not been as conversant about enterprise networking solutions and must provide a seamless extension to the HP Networking dedicated field experts. HP's channel strategy is limiting its ability to expand, especially when dealing with the breadth of the HP product line and the ability to deal with larger enterprise networking opportunities. The past two years have seen organic improvement using HP Enterprise

The information contained herein is subject to change without notice.#Specifically, in networking, which is key to delivering a Converged Infrastructure, we announced the FlexNetwork architecture. It is the industrys only architecture that is unified across the data center, the campus, and the branch. Incumbents out there are offering completely different architectures for the data center and campus. They use completely different products to build it, completely different operating systems, and completely different management tools. If you have a small network administration team, it makes it very difficult to move them from one project to another. Thats only driving up the costs and complexity of lights-on operation. Its only stealing from the balance of the bank for innovation. We follow the advice that you gave us. Divide everything up in to modular building blocks. The network cannot be treated as a single homogeneous entity anymore. Because the needs for different aspects of the business are different. This allows you to make choices and allow you to align those choices to the needs of the business. So modular building blocks like FlexFabric in the data center, to converge and secure the network with storage and servers, so that you can have a single solution for physical and virtual environments and enable you to make that shift to the cloud, when you want to. FlexCampus to converge for wired and wireless access, so you have the freedom of choice and deliver application on an identity basis. FlexBranch: And to converge the network with services in the branch for simplicity to get to a single box offering, where you dont have any IT staff and makes things easier. And to wrap all of that with a single pane of glass management, FlexManagement and to take that and federate it with other orchestration tools to deliver single-button provisioning, which is something you need, getting away from swivel chair management. Its based on five key principles. First, its based on open industry standards; it gives you the agility that we talked about. So that you have the freedom of choice to align your network with your business needs. Its scalable, in terms of functionality, connectivity, capacity. Because I bet all of you have a place that is different on that axis and you need a solution that is tailored to it. And ours can deliver that. And these solutions are secure. Not bolted on, but integrated in each of these modular building blocks, which have a specific security layer that rests in these, which are unique to the data center, to the campus, and to the branch. Agile as is being based on industry-standards, but by removing layers of unnecessary devices, so its easier to make network changes so you can adapt to evolving needs. And deliver a consistent experience. Probably through that one pane of glass, but also due to the consistent underlying technology. The way we can virtualize switches in the data center, exactly the same way we do at the campus. That way your small IT administration staff does not have to learn it two ways. They have to learn it once. They are more agile as a result.11Tested Interoperability
