The following table lists ranges for each Garritan Instruments for Finale (GIFF)instrument included with Finale. Pitches notated outside of an instruments range willnot sound if GIFF is selected as the Playback device. The instruments areorganized by the category in which they appear in the ARIA Player, not the Finaleinstrument categories found in the Setup Wizard and ScoreManager. Ranges arestated as they appear in the ARIA Player (MIDI Note 60=C3 instead of the standardC4). Bold type indicates an instrument new to the Finale 2014 GIFF library. Note: An expression intended for use with Human Playbackshould not include a playback definition - Human Playbacklooks for the text only. Make sure Type is set to None underthe Playback tab of the Expression Designer dialog box. Also,Note-Attached expressions are recommended for keyswitchexpressions.

Any instrument with "KS" in its name (as shown in the ScoreManager or ARIAPlayer) includes alternate sounds relating to a particular performance technique forthat instrument. For example, all "KS" string instruments can play in an arco(bowed), pizzicato (plucked), or tremolo (in rapid succession) style. When usingHuman Playback, text expressions or Smart Shapes can be added to "trigger" thesekeyswitches as part of Human Playbacks interpretation. Alternatively, you caninvoke a keyswitch manually see Adding keyswitches as expressions.

The following are a list of triggers that can be used to change the playback sound ofany GIFF instrument that supports keyswitches. Note that keyswitches reside in thelowest octave for all instruments, well below the range of the instrument (see MIDINote to Pitch Table for equivalents).
