Essay Examinations

part 2

When you follow di-

rections for an essay

exam, pay attention

to the key words the

instructor has includ-

ed. Such words as

"list," "describe,"

"compare and con-

trast," and "outline"

have special meaning.

Don't "write around"

the question but an-

swer it directly. If a

question asks you to

list something, don't

write a narrative

about it. Answering

essay questions di-

rectly is always the

best policy.

HIGHLAND ART FAIR:

The Trail-blazer art s t u d e n t s went to the High-land Art Fair at Highland

CC, on Thursday April 24, 2014. There were 44 schools en-tered in this competi-

We earned ten ribbons, three of which were blue artistic excellence and they went to Jade Visos-Ely for her “Barn Owl” scratch-board, Dylan Carroll for his pencil drawing “Butterfly Mask”, and Mary Murphy for her water color painting “Death Stair”. The fol-

lowing students earned “Artistic Merit” ribbons and they are: Brandon Johnson, Keith Law-rence, Katie Gro-shong, Kyle Hult-gren, Carol Clark, Chase Akin, and Me-gan Wilson. We have participated in this com-petition for the past 20 years and this ranks as our third best showing for earning ribbons.

LADY BLAZER SOCCER

RESULTS:

The lady blazers

played back to

back games on

Monday and

Tuesday against

two very tough

teams. On Mon-

day we played

Lawrence Free state and de-

spite starting the game well

we could not hold the Free

State offense and conceded 8

goals before the game was

over. We had several opportu-

nities to score but could not

find the back of the net. Last

night we traveled to Mill Val-

ley and played a cold, wet, and

physical game. We started

slow defensively and never

quite figured out how to stop

the very technical Mill Valley

offense. We ended up losing

the game 10-0. Tomorrow we

travel to #2 ranked Blue Val-

ley Southwest to take on the

Timberwolves. JV will start at

4:30 with varsity following at

6:30. C team also plays tomor-

row at home against St. Thom-

as Aquinas at 4:00 pm. We

hope to see you in the stands.

Trae Henderson, junior, 100m dash @ 11.15 –third fastest GEHS junior 100m ever

Tanner Hughes, junior, 400m dash @ 52.76 –a personal best time

The true highlight of the meet came dur-ing the last event—the 4x400m relay. Henderson began the relay by running

the fastest Blazer opening leg since 2009 at 51.88. Tanner Hughes, who runs with tremendous guts, fol-lowed with a personal best of his own at 52.89. Jaylon Radel, in his first 4x4 of his distinguished high school track career, powered to a 52.39 finish on the third leg and sophomore Chase Abram slammed the door shut with a two-second per-sonal best split of 54.15. Their time was 3:31.53 and that shaved seven seconds off our season best thus far and was good enough for second place in the meet and stands #2 in the EKL currently. Unbelievable heart and camaraderie displayed by these four gents on that night.

Our Blazer Invitational is this Friday. Field events get rolling by 3:45. We’d love and appreciate your sup-

port. Go BLAZERS!
