On March 19th, the younger age group from the Ferryhill E. cafe got together and did a three mile sponsored walk in aid of Sport Relief. All in fancy dress, the young people walked from
the E. Cafe down the A167 to McDonalds, where they had refreshments before the return journey. A spokesperson for the E. Cafe said, “The young people were very well behaved,
following safety instructions on the way, but still having lots of fun singing. They were a credit to their parents. “Many thanks to the drivers who slowed down, acknowledging the young people with a toot of the horn which was great entertainment whilst on their travels. “Also, thanks to The Post Boy and the Manor House who allowed the young people in their facilities, helping us to raise more funds. “Last but not least, thanks to parents, family and friends who sponsored the children, raising a grand total of £157.75, which will go to help others all over the world.“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the parents of the young children who put my name forward for the Civic Awards, which took place on Saturday, 20th March, where I received a certificate and a token of money which will be going back to the young people when we have our Easter hunt. The young people are dedicated to the E. Cafe making my job a pleasure.”
The Mayor of Ferryhill, Councillor Eileen Martin, has expressed her appreciation to the staff at St Luke’s Church Hall and also pupils from Ferryhill Business & Enterprise College who organised a dinner at St Luke’s Church Hall on Friday, March 26th, to raise money for the Mayors Charity. The meal, which was soup and a homemade bun for starters, Hungarian Goulash with veg and rice or potatoes followed by lime cheesecake with raspberry coulis was enjoyed by many.
Eileen said, “The young people from the college worked extremely hard and were just perfect, they were respectful, cheerful, and polite and were a credit to their parents and to the College, the meal, especially the dessert was brilliant everyone involved did a great job and I am extremely grateful to them all”. It is not yet known how much was raised from the lunch, however, this will be added to the £34.50 raised on the tombola and will be donated to the Great North Air Ambulance.

Shaun Michael McClearn and Dennis Ryan Sweetlove, both of Chilton, entered no pleas to the joint charge of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on a man. The two will now return to Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on May 19th for
committal to Crown Court. The Prosecution stated that the defendants had been drinking at a private house of a young lady in Ferryhill when the incident occurred on February 28th. After an earlier dispute, 19 year-old Sweetlove had shaken hands with the victim,
however some time later, it is alleged that he threw a plastic cider bottle at the victim before following up with punches. The victim was taken to hospital and, amongst the injuries sustained, were fractures to the left eye socket, cheekbone, jaw and a broken nose.

A Ferryhill man has been left struggling to work after being banned from entering his home.James Darren Campion is accused of assaulting his partner in Ferryhill on March 3rd and is currently living with his mother in Lime Grove, Bishop Auckland. Conditions of his bail are that he must not contact his partner or enter Eldon Terrace in Ferryhill Station,
and this is making life difficult for the 41 year-old. Magistrates heard that the defendant needed access to his personal effects and that he was having difficulty carrying out his work, as his computer and fax-machine were also in the property. Campion’s application that bail conditions be relaxed could not however be granted until such time as his partner was properly contacted and gave her

consent. Recently, his partner has issued a retraction statement and the solicitor for the defendant stated that he felt that she had made her views abundantly clear and that she is under no threat from Campion. Matters in the case will be reviewed to determine issues which will go forward to the trial, which has been set for July 1st at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court.

LLEWELLYNS CAFÉ BAR IS 8 YEARS OLD IN APRIL
Hard to believe, but true, ten & eleven year old children who were playing in the garden then, are nowsome of our customers, The Queen clebrated her Golden Jubilee and sadly we said farewell to The QueenMother.
Lots of things have changed in that time, if someone had said eight years ago that future house priceswould tumble, I would have laughed. The recent recession has been tough for everyone and some changeshave been neccessary, yet mainly due to the hard work and dedication of our staff, we have not deviatedfrom our core values and maintained our excellent quality of fresh food, drinks and service, all atcompetetive prices, couple that with the loyalty of our customers and we have a winning combination, wehave even recorded our best ever first quarter turn over to date. So a big thank you to our staff andcustomers, lets keep it up and have a happy Easter.
Best RegardsJohn Lamb

When Anthony Joseph Briggs was stopped and searched by police in Ferryhill on January 28th, he was found to be in possession of 52.5 grammes of cannabis, electronic scales and other paraphernalia associated with drug dealing. The 37 year-old, from Coniston Road, Ferryhill,
entered no plea to the charge of possession of the Class B drug with intent to supply and elected to be tried at Crown Court. Briggs was released on unconditional bail to return before magistrates on May 19th for committal proceedings.

Christopher David Parker, of Raby Terrace, Chilton, entered a not guilty plea to a charge of assaulting a woman in Ferryhill on March 10th. The court then heard that police were due to speak with the alleged victim, with a view
to the charge being withdrawn. The case was adjourned until April 1st and the 33 year-old was released on conditional bail, which excludes him from entering Kitchener Terrace, Ferryhill and from contacting the alleged victim.
CHARGE RETRACTIon?Ferryhill Town Youth Under
8’s played at home at the weekend to 21st All Stars. In blustery weather, which hampered the game, both teams played some excellent football. A changed Ferryhill side saw Lewis Pearson hit the post and there were some fine saves by new goalkeeper Casey Hall. The game ended goalless with man-of-the-match going to Owen Lister. In the second game, Ferryhill went down to an early goal with the wind getting stronger. Ferryhill were up against the play but battled back in the second half with Jack Ewin scoring an early goal from distance. Ferryhill never gave up and were rewarded with a second goal five minutes from time
through Adam Wilson hitting the ball at pace into the bottom corner to give Ferryhill a 2-1 win. Man-of-the-match was awarded to Kai Atkinson. “Well done to all the lads and lasses for a brilliant performance,” commented a spokesperson for the club.Ferryhill Town Youth under 10s were at home to Spraire Lads in a match where the strong wind made it difficult to play good football. Both teams did well to make an entertaining game. Spaire Lads started the stronger, but Ferryhill hung on to go in at half time 0 - 0 and everything to play for. With the wind at their backs, Ferryhill pressed for the opening goal with attack after
attack. Twice a Ferryhill forward got into a one-on-one with the keeper, but were stopped from scoring each time by a very quick and alert goalkeeper rushing off his line and diving bravely to deflect shots away from the net. Right near the end of the game, with Spaire Lads being awarded a free kick in their own half, a long kick eluded the defence and the striker was able to steer the ball home from a tight angle. With barely any time left Ferryhill just couldn't get the equaliser so a tough loss for the boys who can be pleased with the effort they put in.In the second team, Ferryhill were well beaten by a lively Spaire Lads team.
