Museum der italienischen Opernkultur in Verona eröffnet

‘Von Hand geschriebene Partituren, Briefe und Notizen der großen itali-enischen Komponisten Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi und Puccini: im neueröffneten Museum Arena MuseOpera in Verona werden sie erstmals

in großer Zahl gemeinsam ausgestellt. Dazu kommen Kostüme, Bühnenbilder, Skizzen und Fotos. Sie sind alle Originale aus dem berühmten Archivio Ri-cordi, der weltgrößten Musikprivatsammlung, und dem Archiv der Arena von Verona. Die Leitidee des neuen Museums der italienischen Opernkultur ist es, den Besucher durch den eindrucksvollen kreativen Entstehungsprozess einer Oper zu führen: von der ersten Skizze bis zur Aufführung, von der Entwicklung des Librettos über das Schreiben der Partitur, der Anfertigung der Bühnen-bilder und Kostüme sowie der Vorbereitung der Sänger bis zur tatsächlichen Inszenierung. Das MuseOpera ist in den Räumen des mittelalterlichen Palazzo Forti untergebracht, die von 1982 bis 2011 die Galleria d‘Arte Moderna e Con-temporanea di Verona beherbergt haben. Bisher ist nur die erste Etage des Museums für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Der restliche Teil wird anlässlich der Hundertjahrfeier der Opernfestspiele im Juni 2013 eröffnet werden. Der Palazzo Forti befindet sich in der Via Massalongo 7 in Verona. Das Arena MuseOpera hat von April bis September täglich zwischen 9.00 und 19.30 Uhr geöffnet. Von Oktober bis März gelten folgende Öffnungszeiten: Dienstags bis sonntags von 9.00 bis 19.30 Uhr, montags von 14.30 – 19.30 Uhr. Der Eintritt beträgt 10 Euro, unter 18-jährige bezahlen 5 Euro, Rentner und Studenten 7 Euro. Weitere Informationen unter www.arenamuseopera.com.

There are also costumes, stage designs, sketches and photos which are all original and come from the famous Ricordi Archivio, the world‘s largest private music collection, and from the Arena of Verona archives. The main idea of the new museum of the Italian opera culture is to lead the visitors through the impressive creative genesis of an opera, from the first sketch to the performance, from the development of the libretto to the score writing, the production of the stage and the costumes as well as the preparation of the singers to the actual staging.

The MuseOpera is housed in the medieval Palazzo Forti, that from 1982 to 2011 has accommodated the Galleria d‘Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Verona. At the moment only the first floor of the museum is opened to the public. The remaining part will open in June 2013 on the occasion of the

centenary of the opera festival. Palazzo Forti is located in Via Massalongo 7 in Verona. The Arena MuseOpera is open from April to September every day between 9.00 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. The opening times from October to March are the following: Tuesday to Sunday from 9.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m., on Monday from 2.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. The entrance fee is 10 Euro, children under 18 years pay 5 Euro, seniors and students 7 Euro. Rein inskühle Nass

‘Den erfrischenden Sprung ins kühle Nass kann man am Gardasee auch in diesem Jahr wieder unbesorgt wagen. An allen 125

Badestränden des Sees wurde mit dem offi ziellen Beginn der Badesaison wieder mit den regelmäßi-gen Kontrollen der Wasserqualität begonnen. Die Ergebnisse, die Umweltparameter ebenso berück-sichtigen wie bakteriologische Untersuchungen, bezeugen eine hervorragende Wasserqualität an allen Stränden. Der klassische Gardasee-Strand ist ein Kiesstrand, mal in direktem Anschluss an eine Liegewiese, mal als kleine Bucht und manch-mal einfach unmittelbar am Uferweg. Mancherorts ist aber auch der eine oder andere Sandstrand entstanden, es gibt Strandbäder mit Liegen- und Sonnenschirmverleih, Beachbars und Tretbootver-leihe.

Es weht sogar eine blaue Fahne am Gardasee, die begehrte „Bandiera Blu“, die jährlich von der FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) ver-geben wird. 246 italienische Strände wurden die-ses Jahr ausgezeichnet, darunter – bereits zum zweiten Mal und als einziger Ort am Gardasee – Gardone Riviera. Die Vergabekriterien basieren neben der Wasserqualität auch auf Faktoren wie Umweltbewusstsein, Service und Sicherheit. Eine Auszeichnung also die weit über die Strände hin-ausgeht und für die Stadtverwaltung von Gardone Riviera ein Grund zu großer Freude ist.

‘No worry about plunging also this year in the refreshing lake water. As usual, with the offi cial beginning of the bathing season wa-

ter quality tests are made at 125 lake shores. The results examine environmental parameters as well as bacteriological studies, which have attested at all beaches an excellent water quality. The typi-cal lake-beach is composed of surface pebbles, sometimes they are in front of a grassy area, in little bays or just right at the riverside path. But in some locations now and then there are also sandy beaches, as well as lidos with beach chairs and parasols, beach bars and pedal boat rentals.

On Lake Garda blows even a blue fl ag, the cov-eted „Bandiera Blu”, which is assigned every year by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Educa-tion). 246 Italian beaches have been awarded this year, and one of them – for the second time and as the only village of Lake Garda - is Gardone Riviera. In addi-

tion to the water quality the awards criteria include factors such as environmental awareness, service and security. So the blue fl ag is more than a sym-bol for clean beaches and therefore a great honor for the administration of Gardone Riviera.

Wasserspaß

‘Ob im See, am Pool oder im Wasserpark, per Tretboot, Ruderboot oder der aufblasbaren Riesenbanane – Wasserspaß ist am Gardasee garan-tiert. Rund um den See gibt es unzählige Badestellen für jeden Ge-

schmack: kleine Buchten, Strände mit Liegewiese und Spielplatz, Badestege oder Strandbäder. So zum Beispiel der Lido Azzurro in Toscolano Maderno. Das lebendige Strandbad mit Sandstrand, Sonnenschirmen, Liegestühlen, Kinderspielplatz und Trampolin liegt am Lungolago Zanardelli. Der Sandstrand geht im Norden in einen freien Kiesstrand über. Ebenfalls am Westufer befin-det sich der Spiaggia Porto San Felice, ein breiter, mehrere 100 Meter langer Strand mit Beach-Bar und Tretbootverleih. Er liegt im Ortsteil Spizzago di San Felice del Benaco. Einen langen freien Kiesstrand findet man außerdem in Garda. Der Spiaggia del Corno erstreckt sich zwischen dem nördlichen Ortsausgang und der Landzunge Punta San Vigilio. In Lazise kann südlich des Ortes fast an der gesamten Küste Richtung Peschiera del Garda – größtenteils an Sandstränden - gebadet werden. Die Strände werden von den dortigen Campingplätzen gepflegt. Westlich von Peschiera findet man im Anschluss an das Strandbad Lido Cappuccini eine ganze Reihe langer freier Strände hinter denen Liegewiesen liegen. Und im Norden gibt es zum Beispiel in Riva del Garda mit dem Spiaggia Sabbioni und dem Spiaggia dei Pini zwei große Strände mit Liegewiese. Schöne Badeplätze findet man auch an den kleineren benachbarten Seen Lago di Tenno oder Lago di Ledro. Und vor allem am südlichen Gardasee gibt es eine einige tolle Wasserparks mit riesigen Was-serrutschen, tropischen Lagunen und anderen spaßigen Attraktionen. Also, nichts wie rein ins kühle Nass.

‘Whether it is in the lake, in the pool or in the water parks, or getting perhaps the pedalor or rowing boat or the inflatable giant banana – at Lake Garda water fun is guaranteed. Around the lake there are numerous

bathing areas for all tastes: small bays, beaches with lawns and playgrounds, bathing piers or beach bars. So for example the Lido Azzurro in Toscolano Maderno. The lovely shore with beach umbrellas, deckchairs, children‘s play-

ground and trampoline is located at the Zanardelli lakefront. The sand beach changes in the north to a pebble beach. Also on the west bank there is the Porto San Felice beach, a wide, several 100 meters long shore with a bar and a pedal boat rental. It is in the village of Spizzago in San Felice del Benaco. There is a long shingle beach also in Garda: the Corno beach extends from the northern city limit to the headland of Punta San Vigilio. A nice bathing area with sand is near Lazise along the shore towards Peschiera del Garda, south of the village. The beaches here are maintained by the local campgrounds. West of Peschiera lies the Lido Cappuccini and series of long beaches, which have grassy areas. And in the north, in Riva del Garda for example, the big shores Spiaggia Sabbioni and Spiaggia dei Pini, are two beautiful beaches with grass. Beautiful bathing areas can also be found in the smaller neighboring lakes of Tenno and Ledro. And especially at the southern lake you will find some great water parks with giant water slides, tropical lagoons and other fun attractions. So nothing else to do than to enter the cool water.

Die neue Trendsportart aus Hawaii

‘Wassersport wird am Gardasee groß geschrieben. Segeln, Surfen oder Kitesurfen, Tauchen oder Schnorcheln, Wasserski, Kajak oder Motor-boot – am größten See Italiens gibt es fast nichts, was es nicht gibt. Und

nun hat auch die neue Trendsportart SUP am Gardasee Einzug gehalten. SUP steht für Stand Up Paddeln und stammt aus Hawaii. Mit einem langen Paddel in der Hand steht man dann auf einem wackeligen Surfbrett und gleitet über den See, der eine langsamer, der andere sportlich schnell. Polynesische Fi-scher verwendeten einst die Bretter und in den 60er Jahren fanden die Surfer auf Hawaii im Stand Up Paddeln ein geeignetes Workout-Training für wellen-lose Zeiten. Vor etwa fünf Jahren wurde dann diese sportliche Fortbewegung von Robby Naish, Dave Kalama und Laird Hamilton wiederentdeckt und als Sportart populär gemacht. Am Gardasee ist sie heute eine spaßige Alternative für windstille Stunden oder wird zum Surfen lernen genutzt. Spaß macht sie zudem in Gruppen, und auch Fitnessstudios zeigen sich am Paddeln im Ste-hen interessiert. Durch die ständige Ausgleichbewegung trainiert man nämlich auch die Muskeln, die man bei anderen Sportarten nicht benutzt. Und so wird die neue Trendsportart auch schon als Nordic Walking auf dem Wasser be-zeichnet. Also nichts wie ein Paddel in die Hand und rauf aufs Surfbrett.

‘Water sports are largely written at Lake Garda. At the largest lake in Italy there is almost nothing that does not exist - sailing, windsurfi ng or kite surfi ng, scuba diving or snorkeling, water skiing, kayak or motorboat.

And now also the new trend sport SUP has reached the lake. SUP means Stand Up Paddling and comes from Hawaii. With a long paddle in the hand you stand on a wobbly surfboard and glide across the lake, some people do it slowly, others make it faster. Once Polynesian fi shermen used the boards and in the 60s for the surfers in Hawaii Stand Up Paddling was a suitable workout for the windless times. About fi ve years ago it was rediscovered by Robby Naish, Dave Kalama und Laird Hamilton, who made it popular as a new trend sport. At Lake Garda SUP is today a funny alternative for windless hours or it is used to learn surfi ng. It is also fun to do it in groups and even gyms are interested in the new trend sport because paddling in the standing position on a wobbly board trains almost all muscles. And so SUP is also even known as Nordic walking on the water. So don’t hesitate: paddle in the hand and jump on a surfboard.

‘„Around the world in 80 days“ is the title of the fairytale festival „Notte di Fiaba“ of Riva del Garda from 23 to 26 August. Young and

old enjoy the popular event, which changes the small town situated in the northern part of the

lake for four days into a fantastic wonderland. This year‘s edition is completely dedicated to the cha-racters and adventures of Jules Verne‘s famous novel. The visitors of the famous festival are at the same time spectators and protagonists and so they can go for example on a journey around the globe with Mister Fogg. In addition it is possible to participate in creative workshops or games. The-atre, storytellings, street art, concerts, good food and a great fairytale market with handicraft items complete the interesting program. A highlight of the „Notte di Fiaba“ are the magical 40-minutes long fi reworks, that lit up on Saturday evening from 22.00 o‘clock the sky above the lake. ‘„In 80 Tagen um die Welt“ so der Titel der diesjährigen „Notte di Fiaba”, die vom 23. bis 26. August 2012 in Riva del Garda stattfi n-

Die bei Klein und Groß gleichermaßen beliebte Veranstaltung verwandelt das Städtchen am nörd-lichen Gardasee für vier Tage in ein fantastisches Märchenland, in dem sich in diesem Jahr alles um die Figuren und Abenteuer aus Jules Vernes berühmtem Roman drehen wird. Die Besucher der inzwischen schon traditionsreichen Märchen-tage sind mal Zuschauer, mal Protagonisten. So können sie sich zum Beispiel mit Mister Fogg auf die Reise um die Welt begeben oder an Kreativ-workshops und Spielen teilnehmen. Theater, Er-zählungen, Straßenkunst, Konzerte, kulinarische Leckereien sowie ein großer Märchenmarkt mit Kunsthandwerk runden das attraktive Programm ab. Ein spektakulärer Höhepunkt der „Notte di Fi-aba“ ist das märchenhafte 40-minütige Feuerwerk, das am Samstagabend ab 22.00 Uhr den Himmel über dem Gardasee erhellt. Just a few steps from the Frantoio, on a hill with

nice lake view, there is the beautifully restored Res-idence San Rocco. At guests’ disposal there are 1- and 2- room apartments with kitchenette and a spacious garden with swimming pool. The building is owned by the family Manestrini since 1880 and was built on the ruins of a Franciscan monastery. A small chapel dedicated to San Rocco reminds of these past and can today be used for weddings and other celebrations.

‘The preparations for the annual wine festival organized by the Consorzio Franciacorta are in full swing. This year’s edition is titled „Franciacorta e Buon Gusto“ and it will be a weekend full of events and activities where

the Franciacorta wine can be discovered. Furthermore you get to know the Franciacorta region, the picturesque region in the heart of Lombardy, on the shores of Lake Iseo, a top class wine region. But the Franciacorta is also a

land rich in nature, history and tradition. This year the festival takes place on 29 and 30 September and offers a unique opportunity to learn a bit more about the Franciacorta. Who wants to know for example interesting things about the secrets of the world-class wine-grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero, can visit the wineries and taste the various wines. On this occasion also restaurants and holiday farms in the area create specifi cally for the festival traditional and original dishes, which of course are served with the various Franciacorta wines.

During the weekend there are also many possibilities to make excursions throughout the Franciacorta and enjoy the rich cultural and natural heritage of the area: by bus, bicycle, carriage or on a trekking tour. Along the tours there is the chance to stop for some wine-tastings and see also monasteries, small villages, villas, parks and natural reserves.

‘Weinreben und Olivenbäume sind die Lebensader der Illasi Valleys, die-sem eleganten und weitläufigen Landstrich, in dem hier und da Zypres-senspitzen in den Himmel ragen und dichte Haselnuss- und Buchen-

‘Vineyards and olive trees are the lifeblood of the Illasi Valleys, this elegant and spacious land where here and there tops of cypresses stretch up into the

sky and where dense hazel and beech forests provide lovely shade. Between the silvery spots of ancient olive trees Romanesque churches and medieval towers of an-

cient castles rise up gently. Numerous oil mills and wineries run by families or young passionate professionals testify the strong binding of these valleys to wine and oil. Wine growing has here a thousand year old tradition, but today the area is focused mainly on the Amarone, considered one of the three great red wines of Italy. The Illasi Valleys stand internationally for high quality Am-arone wines, and also the star vintner Romano Dal Forno comes from here. Another area’s true gem is the top class Soave wines from Colognola ai Colli. Das natürliche Amphitheaterder Lessinia

‘Sanfte Weidelandschaft, schroffe Felsen, prähistorische Höhlen, Schluchten und Was-serfälle prägen das Bild der Lessinia. Außer-

dem ist sie – insbesondere im Osten – von der Architektur der alten sächsischen Siedlungen ge-kennzeichnet. Auf der Flucht vor Karl dem Großen haben die Sachsen in der Lessinia in aus Stein ge-bauten, einfachen Hütten ein neues Zuhause ge-funden. Diese so genannten „malghe d’alpeggio“ gibt es noch vielerorts zu sehen. In ihren Tiefen verbirgt die Lessinia zudem alte Raub- und Beu-tetiere und einen nahezu unendlichen Schatz an Fossilien, von denen nach und nach immer mehr entdeckt werden. Besonders beindruckende Bei-spiele sind die „Pesciaia di Bolca“, eine zu Stein gewordene Lagune und die spektakulären Verstei-nerungen im „Museo Geopaleontologico di Cam-posilvano“. Hier sind zum Beispiel der Fußabdruck des theropodischen Dinosauriers Kayentapus und die Rekonstruktion des kompletten Skeletts eines Ursus spelaeus ausgestellt. Das Museum liegt in der Via Covolo in Velo Veronese und hat bis zum 15. September täglich von 9.30 bis 12.30 Uhr und von 15.30 bis 18.30 Uhr geöffnet. (Anschließend bis 14. Mai nur an den Wochenenden.) Gleich beim Museum befindet sich mit der oberirdischen Höh-le „Covolo di Camposilvano“ außerdem ein ein-drucksvolles Zeugnis der für die Lessinia charak-teristischen Karstlandschaft. Der riesige Hohlraum soll Dante als Inspiration für die Hölle in seine „Di-

vina Commedia“ gedient haben. Die Bevölkerung glaubte eher, hier seien Trolle und Feen zuhause. Etwas nördlich des Museums beginnt das Natur-reservat „Valle delle Sfingi“, wo durch die Erosion jede Menge pilzförmige Monolithen entstanden sind.

di Camposilvano” is located, it is also an evidence of Lessinia’s characteristic karst landscape. The huge cavity is said to have served as inspiration for Dante’s hell in the „Divina Commedia”. The popula-tion rather believed that it was the home of trolls and fairies. Just north of the museum begins the Nature Reserve „Valle delle Sfingi” where a lot of mushroom-shaped monoliths have been formed by erosion.

Internationale Segelregatta der Spitzenklasse

‘Bereits zum 62. Mal wird die berühmte Centomiglia dieses Jahr auf dem Gardasee ausgetragen. Sie gehört weltweit zu den größten Segel-regatten in Binnengewässern. Mehr als 1000 Teilnehmer und Besucher

aus der ganzen Welt werden dafür am 8. und 9. September im Hafen von Bogliaco, einem kleinen Örtchen der Gemeinde Gargnano, erwartet. Von hier aus führt der Regattakurs die teilnehmenden Boote fast über den gesamten Gardasee. Je nach Bootsklasse geht es vom Start in Bogliaco zunächst nach Torbole oder Navene, dann wieder zurück nach Bogliaco und anschließend weiter nach Desenzano am Südende des Sees. Von dort wird abermals nach Bogliaco gesegelt. Bei den an der Centomiglia teilnehmenden Booten handelt es sich um Einrumpfboote und Yachten der Klasse Maxilibera sowie Monotyp-Yachten und Kajütboote. Neben der traditionellen Centomiglia werden zeit-gleich auch die so genannte Multi Cento, eine Regatte für Mehrrumpfboote, sowie die CentoPeople, ein Wettfahren für Kreuzfahrtyachten, ausgetragen. ‘This year it is the 62st time that the famous Centomiglia is held on Lake Garda. The regatta is one of the largest sailing regattas in inland waters. More than 1000 participants and visitors from all over the world are ex-

pected to arrive on 8 and 9 September in the port of Bogliaco, a small village of the municipality of Gargnano. From here the regatta leads the participating boats almost along the entire lake. Depending on the boat type, from the start the race goes fi rst to Torbole or Navene, then back to Bogliaco and after to Desenzano, which is in the south end of the lake. From Desenzano the boats will sail once again towards Bogliaco. The type of boats participating in the Centomiglia are monohulls, Maxilibera and Monotype yachts, as well as cabin cruisers. In addition to the traditional Centomiglia the so-called Multi Cento, a regatta for multihulls, and the CentoPeople, an agonistic sailing race for crui-sing yachts, are hold at the same time. ‘Es ist die sportliche Neuheit des Gardasee-Sommers 2012: das Rock Master Festival in Arco. Der Rock Master selbst ist in der internationalen Freeclimber-Szene längst eine Veranstaltung mit Kultstatus und lockt

Jahr für Jahr die besten Kletterer der Weltrangliste in das malerische Städt-chen am nördlichen Gardasee. Mit dem Rock Master Festival gibt es in Arco aber künftig mehr als das, nämlich neun Tage Klettern total, Freeclimbing in all seinen Facetten. Eröffnet wird das Festival am 25. und 26. August von den Nachwuchskletterern des Rock Juniors. Beim Under 14 Cup treten hierbei die Champions von morgen in verschiedenen Disziplinen gegeneinander an – und das an denselben Wänden, an denen wenige Tage später die Stars der Szene um die Titel klettern werden. Doch Rock Junior ist deutlich mehr als eine Wettkampfveranstaltung, Rock Junior ist Klettern, Spaß und Spiel. Auf die 5- bis 13-jährigen Teilnehmer und deren Familien wartet im Kletterstadion von Arco ein abwechslungsreiches Programm. Am 28. August geht es in Arco dann mit dem Paraclimbing Cup weiter, ehe am 30. August der spektakuläre Rock Master beginnt. Mit der Speed-Weltmeisterschaft am 1. September er-reicht dieser seinen Höhepunk, hält aber am 2. September noch einen wah-ren Augenschmaus bereit: die Entscheidung im Boulder und das traditionelle Rock Master Climbing-Duell. Neben den Wettkämpfen bietet das Rock Master Festival aber auch Raum für Kletterkurse und geführte Wanderungen, außer-dem gibt es eine große „Test Area“, wo die neuste Freeclimbing- und Outdoo-rausrüstung von den Teilnehmern ausprobiert werden kann. Der Gardasee ist der größte See Italiens, der größte der Oberitalienischen Seen. Der Gardasee wurde durch den Etschgletscher in der vergangenen Eiszeit geformt, dessen Spuren man noch heute verfolgen kann. Zwischen den Alpen und der Poebene liegt der Gardasee im Norden in der Region Trentino-Südtirol, im Westen in der Lombardei, im Osten in Venetien. Damit teilen sich die drei Provinzen Trento (Norden), Verona (Osten) und Brescia (Westen) die Verwaltung. Während das nördliche Ufer des Sees von Zweitausendern der Gardaseeberge wie z. B. dem Monte Baldo umsäumt ist, liegt das südliche Ufer bereits in der Ebene. Das Klima ist aufgrund der Lage sub-mediterran mit heißen Sommern und niederschlagsarmen, milden Wintern. Die Jahresdurchschnittstemperatur liegt zwischen 13 und 15° C.

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last ice age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (southeast), Brescia (southwest), and Trento (north). Being easily accessible from the north via the Brenner Pass, the lake is a major tourist destination, including a number of exclusive hotels and resorts along its shore. The northern part of the lake is narrower, surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to the Mount Baldo chain. The shape is typical of a moraine valley, probably having been formed under the action of a Palaeolithic glacier. The climate is sub-Mediterranean with hot summers and low rainfall, mild winters. The annual average temperature is 13-15° C.
