Throughout the conference, sub- themes will address the challenges and the best practices for the Infrastructure development in Africa, the progress through Infrastructure investment, the transnational Infrastructure programs, and the African integration and mining, energy, water, sanitation, environment and sustainable development. Fidic /gama conferences. GAMA 2018 CONFERENCE

The FIDIC-GAMA Annual Conference is a major networking event for African Consulting engineers.

This year, the Consulting Engineers of Mali (OICM) will be organizing the 25th FIDIC-GAMA

CESA 2017 Seminar & AGM Success

The 2017 Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) Seminar

and AGM which was held on the 7th November 2017 at the

Southern Sun Hotel OR Tambo Airport was a resounding

success. The Seminar comprised of two sessions dealing with

‘The funding and delivery of Infrastructure in times of political

uncertainty’, and ‘The Transformation of the Consulting

Engineering Sector’. The calibre of the speakers was excellent

and the sessions were thought-provoking and interactive allowing

for heated debate on a number of crucial industry-related topics.

At the 64th Annual General Meeting held at the Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) Seminar in

Johannesburg on Tuesday 7th November, Neresh Pather from Mott MacDonald Africa was inaugurated

as President of the organisation for the next two years, succeeding Lynne Pretorius. Sugen Pillay,

Managing Director of Zitholele Consulting was elected to serve as Deputy President of CESA for the

CESA Women’s Forum Launched

The Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA)

Women’s Forum was successfully launched in October

2017 at a function held in Midrand that was sponsored by

Aon and Knight Piésold. The first Women’s Forum was

held in November, hosted at Matleng Energy Solution’s

offices in Woodmead. The objective of the Forum is to

provide women in the consulting engineering industry

with structured support.Speakers at the Women’s Forum

launch event included CESA President, now immediate

Past President, Lynne Pretorius who provided a formal

introduction and an explanation of the ‘Road to the CESA

Women’s Forum. MPA CEO, Malani Padayachee-Saman

discussed ‘Female Leadership in her own company, CSV

Water Associate Director, Dr Michele Kruger shared her thinking on why such a Forum was important

for CESA especially in the context of retaining female engineering practitioners in the industry.

CESA 2018 Upcoming Events and Functions

The following provides some insight into some of the upcoming events for 2018.

CESA Presidential Media Breakfast

Representatives from select media houses in South Africa have been invited to attend Consulting

Engineers South Africa (CESA)’s annual media briefing where the newly appointed President, Neresh

Pather, will present his theme for the year. This event will be held at the Crown Plaza, Rosebank on the

30th

January 2018.

CESA to host Infrastructure Indaba in Johannesburg South Africa

CESA will host its annual Infrastructure Indaba from 5-6 March 2018 in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. The

two-day session will bring together leading experts including government officials, consulting

engineers and built environment professionals for the purpose of improved delivery and management of

public infrastructure.

The event aims to foster partnerships between government and the private sector, particularly the

engineering sector, and capacitate the channels of service delivery through cooperation and the

development of common goals.The CESA Indaba 2018 will be a platform to engage, network and share

best practice required for improved service delivery within the built environment.

OTHER ENGINEERING HAPPENINGS WITHIN ACEN The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) ACT Amendment 2017 On 1st November, 2017, the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at its plenary session, passed the Bill for an Act to Amend the Engineers (Registration, etc) Act, Cap, E11, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to introduce New Register for Engineering Firms, include Engineering Personnel, broaden the power of the Council and its Registrar and the recognition of other professional bodies outside the Nigerian Society of Engineers to nominate representatives to the Council among others; and for Related Matters 2017 to the House Committee on Works for further deliberations after scaling the Second Reading. A public hearing will took place on 22nd January, 2018.
