The group, Black Velvet, is back in action andthe new line-up, they say, is a blend of expe-rience, youthfulness, talent, high energy,

Their play list, according toleader Yohan Fonseka, takesyou into a musical journey ofsoul, funk, blues, rock, com-mercial pop, R 'n' B, and jazz,to popular favourites and alltime hits from the 60s, throughto the current charts.

The new-look outfit com-prises Yohan Fonseka (key-boards/acoustic guitar/percus-sion and vocals), HonorineFonseka (vocals), ShiranMunasinghe (drums/vocvals),Eshan Seneviratne (key-boards/vocals), Shashi Perera(bass/vocals), and Ruwan Silva(lead/classical guitar/vocals).

Black Velvet came into thescene in 1991 and three years

later won the most promising band award.They later disbanded, with Yohan and

Honorine doing the duo/trio sceneBlack Velvet is now being featured on Friday

nights at the Cinnamon Grand and also on a regu-lar basis at the Ballys club.

the world for the past year, performing pitch-perfect shows night after night.

The success of the trek has promptedsome cynical critics to publicly assume sheisn't singing live during all her performanc-es.

She recently hit back at the claims, say-ing, "I will sing live every night. I will neverlip-sync, not when you buy a ticket to myshow."
