During the last six weeks we have purchased lots of new books for Sixth Form and School Libraries. All books are now catalogued and ready to read. Our next step is to recall all our outstanding loans. The process will be: Books are taken out for a two week period. They can be returned to the Library earlier than two weeks or have the loan period extended for a week at a time, by the Librarian.

After three weeks, a letter will be sent to the form teacher who will remind the student to return the book to the Library.

After four weeks, a letter/email will be sent home to Parent/Carer, to remind the student to return the overdue book.

After six weeks, with book not returned, a phone call home, to Parent/Carer, for either money for new book or replacement book.

When we have all overdue books returned we will be rearranging book shelving to promote all stock to enable better selection for students. Your help in this matter would be much appreciated. Mrs Georgiou - Librarian

Year 11 Mock Examinations

#WaterSavingSelfie

This term saw the launch of the #watersavingselfie, which was the culmination of the project launched by Fresh Thinking, the Gable Hall team who won Thurrock's Next Top Boss. Essex and Suffolk Water were so impressed with the winning proposal, that they decided to launch it for real, as it was a novel way of getting young people to think about saving water. All Gable Hall students came home with a T-shirt and some water saving tips earlier in the term and pupils have been posting their tips on twitter and Facebook. Thank you to everybody who has taken part in the social media campaign. Essex and Suffolk Water are currently visiting homes in the Thurrock area to fit free water saving devises. Look at their website for further details.

On Sunday 27 September, Taylor Knight participated in a triathlon at Hever Castle as part of the Castle Triathlon Series. Taylor was successful in raising £1201 for the charity Cancer Research UK. The event involved a 200m swim in a very cold lake, 4km bike and 2km run. The event was a real challenge and Taylor persevered, finishing the whole race with a big smile on his face and telling jokes to the marshals on the way. Taylor's new scout group 1st Langdon Hills recognised his achievements by awarding him two badges: Fundraising and Sports Enthusiast. Congratulations on your achievements!

Masterpiece of the week goes to…

Lauren Gray

This is a sample of Lauren’s Art work which is her Unit 1 GCSE final piece based on Natural Forms, in response to artists William Morris and Kaffe Fassett. Lauren’s design has been screen printed, and she has machine and hand embroidered it. She is going to be making a skirt with her finished piece. It is a beautiful piece of work…well done Lauren!

UNIFORM APPEAL

Dear Parents, Please check that the skirts you buy this term are not clingy, do cover your daughter’s knee and are straight cut. If in doubt, please send them to school in trousers. We will return students who wear the wrong skirt lengths etc., home. Thanking you for your support.

Please credit your SQUID account!

The initial overdraft facility given to all students on SQUID for cashless payments has now expired. Please remember to top up your SQUID account as your children may be unaware of low or zero funds being available when they approach the till with their items. As we all know this can cause anxiety and embarrassment in all of us. There are five ways of topping up SQUID, including Auto Top up and Direct Transfer. All are detailed on your SQUID portal.

Do you have (or know of someone with) talents you would like us to shout about? Please contact your child's Form Tutor or email us at [email protected] with details.

Can we do better? We are asking for parents to give us feedback on anything they feel we as a school can improve on. If you have any suggestions please email the school [email protected] for the attention of Mrs Jeffrey.

This term we are looking at developing our parent partnerships further and thought I would take the opportunity to remind

you of the work we have done so far and inform you of our events leading up to the end of term. We are looking to recruit a

number of parents for a range of roles from volunteers to supporting cultural events and fundraising activities. If you are able

to support us in any way please contact reception and leave your details, so we can join together to help move the school

further forward.

If your son/daughter suffers from Asthma, it is vital that they have an asthma pump on them at all times, and a spare one in the Medical Bay, especially now the weather conditions have changed!
