    TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN

FGCU led the Atlantic Sun Conference in defense last year, allowing opponents to score just 66.8 points per game.

FGCU is the only school in the Atlantic Sun Conference which has won an A-Sun Mens Basketball Champion-ship. Conference re-alignment has drastically altered the landscape of collegiate athletics, and the A-Sun is no dif-ferent. The Eagles joined the league in 2007-08 with USC Upstate, and prior to that North Florida and Kennesaw State both joined for the 2005-06 season. Lipscomb has been a member since 2003-04, Jacksonville since 1998-99 and Stetson since 1986-87. Northern Kentucky is in its third year in the A-Sun after joining in 2012-13 and has two years (including this season) of its NCAA-mandated Division-I reclassification period remaining.

The Atlantic Sun Conference has been the talk of the college basketball world the last two postseasons as FGCU and Mercer (now a Southern Conference member) have both been responsible for three major upsets in the NCAA Tour-nament, affectionately turning the A-Sun into the A-Stun.

FGCU leads the all-time series, 8-6, but has won six-straight games against Kennesaw

State, dating back to a 69-68 setback on the road during the 2010-11 season. In the six-game winning streak, the Eagles have out-scored the Owls by an av-erage of 13.8 per game, and defeated KSU in the Con-vocation Center last year in convincing fashion, 83-62.

Through four A-Sun games this year, FGCU leads the league by only allow-ing opponents to score 62 points per game. Kennesaw State, meanwhile, ranks last in that category, allowing opponents to score an average of 79.2 points per game.

    62

Rebounding will likely be another key factor as FGCU leads the A-Sun (all games) with a +3.2 rebound margin, while the Owls are sixth in the league at -2.7.
