Session Objectives
Know exactly what to expect in the examination and topics which may occur.
Exam Date and Time
Monday 16th January 2012 in the afternoon (13.30)
Your completed pre-release will be on your table waiting for you when you enter.
Exam Format
Marked out of 100 30 marks will have been completed – task 2/3 of pre release
50 marks are for section A of the exam – questions based upon the case study task 1 of pre release will help
20 marks are for section B of the exam – 2 questions from any part of the specification.

Question 1/2 Ensure you know the difference between a job
function (department) and job role (actual person / position)
Read the questions carefully so you describe the expected function / role – sometimes the question can mislead e.g.
Finance is one job function at head office name another and describe 4 tasks the function carries out.
Copy the answers from the pre-release don’t be clever and make stuff up,

Question 4/5 - Inputs & Outputs
product code entered (1st) (1) by touching icon on the touch screen (1)
receipt (1st)(1) printed out by till printer (1)
Care is needed when copying from the case study for question 4 and 5 – they ask for the inputs and outputs in a system / procedure make sure these are written down first.
A touch screen is used in the café to enter the code of each product required by touching the correct icon. A keypad is then used to enter the quantity.
When the transaction is complete the printer at the till prints a receipt which is given to the customer as proof of purchase.

Question 4/5 Common Error Here is an example question 5 and answers from last
years mock exam… QUESTION 5: ICT is used within a warehouse. Describe an
example of each. Hardware, Software, Input, Process, Output.INPUT DATA
The barcode reader is used to enter the product code Product code entered using barcode reader Barcode is read by barcode reader to input product code Product code input from barcode being read by the barcode reader
OUTPUT DATA Warehouse manager prints out the re-order log twice a week Re-order log is printed twice a week by the warehouse manager

Question 5 Marked out of 10 – must have at least one point for each
of: Hardware, Software, Input, Output, Process.
Other 5 marks can come from any of them so if you: Have 6 correct hardware devices and 1 correct from the other
categories its full marks Have 4 correct hardware devices, 3 correct software applications
and 1 correct for the other categories its full marks

Question 6 This is the A grade question, Needs you to evaluate part of the system and suggest
improvements, You can normally spot potential questions by reading
through the case study and spotting weaknesses, The typical structure for the question is:
Strength Weakness Improvement Potential problem with improvement.
Requires knowledge of up to date hardware devices and ICT working practices.
Topic Tasks Check to ensure you have notes for all 12 topics, Ensure you have saved copies of all three text books, Log onto the website using the provided username
and password to access the past papers for this unit – have a detailed look at these so you know exactly what to expect.
