Ottawa County Michigan Works! is offering free of charge to the general public a set of online tools called “Optimal Resume.” Optimal Resume is a suite of online tools whereby a user can modify existing templates of professionally written and designed cover letters and resumes with the user’s own information. These professionally written cover letters and resumes are then automatically transformed into a professionally designed, personalized web site to which the user can direct a potential employer. Optimal Resume also allows users to create online portfolios into which the user can upload certificates, file samples, presentations and other supplemental materials that might impress an employer. Optimal Resume is very intuitive and offers the ability to utilize video as a method of practicing interviewing techniques. The user can choose from a wide variety of practice questions in video format that are presented by professionals. Provided the user has a web cam, these questions can be answered and recorded for comment by friends or Ottawa County Michigan Works! Career Navigation staff. Career Navigation staff are trained to provide constructive feedback as it relates to body language, use of slang, and other issues interviewees must watch for. The Optimal Resume suite of online tools is available free of charge to the general public. “We’re working with Optimal Resume to help job seekers in our area,” says Bill MacDhubhain, Ottawa County Michigan Works! Facility Coordinator. “There are enough licenses for almost everyone in Ottawa County to register for an account. Of course, being the Internet, customers aren’t limited to Ottawa County. We’d like to see everyone who needs this sort of help, get it.” “This is also a great opportunity for people to start a fresh online presence,” says Bruce Hudson, Ottawa County Michigan Works! Career Navigation staff member, “These days we’re seeing people with legacy web sites and email addresses that are inappropriate or are of a nature they wouldn’t want a potential employer to see. The templates on Optimal Resume are fresh, dynamic and very professional.” Creating a free account on Ottawa County Michigan Works! Optimal Resume site is easy.
