EMERSON ELEMENTARY Get Really Excited About Today!
Hello Emerson Families~
Can it be? Can Spring really be here? A sure sign that Spring is coming…Spring
Break! Spring Break begins this weekend and continues through Friday, April 8, 2016. Emer-
son Elementary and Owosso Public Schools in general will be closed the entire week. School
will resume on Monday, April 11th at 8:40 AM.
The 2016 Major League Baseball season is starting next week as well! Friday, April 8
is the Opening Day of the Detroit Tigers 2016 MLB baseball season. In support of the Detroit
Tigers, I am encouraging all students and staff to wear Detroit Tiger gear or orange and blue
clothing on the day we return from Spring Break (Monday, April 11). Let’s fill our school with
blue and orange! Go TIGERS!!!
It’s not too late to register a child that is turning 5 by September 1st for Kindergarten!
If you or someone you know still need to register for Fall 2016 Kindergarten, please call any of
the three elementary schools to set up a time to bring the necessary paperwork and the child
in to complete that process anytime between now and the end of the school year.
The festivities for “March is Reading Month” came to a close today (Friday) with a cul-
minating assembly where two bikes that were donated by the Kiwanis Club of Owosso from
the House of Wheels were given away! Thank you for encouraging your child to read above
and beyond the normal reading expectations! Your support does not go unnoticed as we truly
appreciate the partnership between home and school!
The Spring Book Fair is coming! This will be a Buy 1/ Get 1 Book Fair. The Book Fair
will take place beginning Friday, May 13th and continuing through Wednesday, May 18th. We
will be having a Book Fair Night on Wednesday, May 18th from 4:00-7:00. This is a GREAT
opportunity to stock up on new books for summer reading! More details will be sent home af-
ter Spring Break.
The annual M-STEP (old MEAP testing) will begin for our 3rd-5th grade students the
week that we return from Spring Break. We will not be testing every day but it is important that
all students be in school each day during the testing period. The 5th grade students will test
first. 3rd grade will begin testing the week of April 25th and the 4th grade students will begin
testing the week of May 9th. More information will be sent home the week of April 11th.
PTO is looking for your input! We are making plans for the Family Fun event that will
happen later this Spring. We are looking for people that are interested in helping plan the ac-
tivities for the event. We will be discussing the event at the regularly scheduled PTO meeting
on Wednesday, April 20th at 6:30 in the Media Center. We would love to have as many par-
ents involved as possible! I hope to see you there!
I hope that you have a fantastic Spring Break week! Enjoy the break! As always…Go
Tigers on Opening Day@ Comerica Park and GO TROJANS!!!

During the month of April, students and staff will be concentrating on being Trustworthy and
Knowledgeable. Being a Trustworthy individual involves standing up for your beliefs. You return
what you borrow, pay your debts, and are on time and dependable. Knowledge-
able people explore concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global
importance in our community, state and world. They will acquire in-depth
understanding across a broad range of disciplines.
Congratulations to our March is Reading
Month bike winners! Brynley Miller, kinder-
gartener in Mrs. Verlinde’s class and Syd-
ney Somers, 5th grader from Mr. McCuaig’s
