Jon Jon Smuts, has also represented the Proteas in T20 cricket, and it is a massive moment for the College to also have an ODI player now. Less than 140 players have ever presented the Proteas in the ODI format, with 345 playing Test Cricket. I have no doubt that, that in the near future, Graeme might well have a few more players knocking on the door of the highest level of cricket. He was the 65th T20 player, and now the 135th player to represent the Proteas in ODI cricket. What an incredible achievement. Jon Jon captained the 1st XI in 2006, taking 141 wickets for Graeme. He scored 4220 runs for the 1st XI, at an average of 57, 8 which included 14 centuries. He scored more than 50 on 40 occasions in his 1st XI career. He represented SA u19, and obviously gone on to captain the Warriors, playing alongside his brother Kelly. Graeme College’s most famed sportsman was Hennie Le Roux, who obviously was part of the 1995 rugby World Cup winning team. We gladly add Jon Jon Smuts to that list this week. He has opened a door for many Graemians to follow, and enabled dreams and aspirations to take flight. Interestingly, Jon Jon still donates a cricket bat to Graeme College every year, which gets awarded to the one of theplayers of the year within the 1st XI. The great lesson for our young Graemian’s is the work ethic and discipline that Jon Jon put into his sport. He is anincredible role model for our learners, and will no doubt inspire many to follow in his footsteps. Not many schools can boast to produce international sportsmen, and we are delighted to share a little of his success withhim. Congrats Jon Jon! #ProudlyGraemian Mr. G van MolendorffDeputy Headmaster

Sports news & fixtures

CSA Coastal School Final vs De Villiers GraaffGraeme batted first and scored a very challenging total of 120/7 after their 20 overs. With a thick and slow outfield, SonwabileTshona showed his experience with a very valuable innings.Graeme was very comfortable with the total, but knew theywould still need to bowl well to the quality DVG top order. TheGraeme bowlers have been consistently impressive this year, and did brilliantly to restrict the DVG top order. With anincreasing run rate required, DVG had no choice but to chasethe game, and lost wickets at regular intervals. With thatGraeme College qualifies for the CSA T20 Finals for the secondtime, along with 7 other schools within South Africa. Thetournament is held in Pretoria from 5 to 8 March, and will havethe very best cricket teams in South Africa, competing for thefinal prize. It is an experience our players will never forget.

It was a great weekend out for our cricketers, with the Senior School enjoying a tough fixture against St Andrews. Teamsenjoyed the two innings format, with the most exciting match being the 3rd XI. In the firsts innings Graeme were 163 allout, to which St Andrews replied with 208 all out. Graeme then declared on 89/1 in their second innings, leaving SAC atotal of 44 to chase with their 5 wickets available in the second innings. St Andrews ended on 24/4 with Graeme needingthe one wicket for an outright win.The young 1st XI showed good fight to come back from a tough morning session.Graeme were looking solid at 50/3 at tea, despite some tight bowling from SAC. They let SAC in and were verydisappointed to be bowled out for 102. The experience of the St Andrews opening pair showed as the Graeme bowlerstoiled hard to get a breakthrough. They fought back well and St Andrews declared on 199 / 5 with 19 overs left in the day.Graeme batted out the overs comfortably avoiding an outright win for SAC. They ended on 27/1 after 14 overs, before badlight ended play. The Junior School won every game against Woodridge. The highlight of the day across the whole school would havebeen Andrew Muir’s maiden century for the u13A. That helped his team to win by 86 runs. The u11A won their contest by157 runs. The u13B (82 runs) and u11B (9 wkts) were also impressive in their wins. Kitts McConnachie claimed 5 for 9 forthe u11A.

Murray Tyson claimed ANOTHER 5-for, for the u14A. He is just phenomenal at the moment!Graeme vs DVG (CSA T20 Coastal School Final)Graeme 120 /7S Tshona 37DVG 62 all out.Aphiwe Mnyanda 3 for 10Viwe Gana 2 for 11Mzubanzi Mnandi 2 for 17Graeme won by 58 runs.

Right: A great photo captured of theu14A cricket team. It was a great

experience for the lads. St Andrewsdeserved the win, but not after a great

fight by the Graeme side.

Grade 00's and Grade R's outing

The Leopard Cubs enjoyed an outing today to Langholm Country Estate, in their first trip in the school bus, where theyinteracted and fed all sorts of animals at the animal touch farm. The rain did not deter the boys, in fact muddy puddlesonly made it so much more fun! The boys fed goats, chickens, bunnies and pigs and saw zebra and buck on their walk.
