Another busy week at Goldsborough saw our Sports
Day finally take place, despite fears that Wednesday’s
rain would lead to another cancellation. Our ‘sports
stars’ were fantastic throughout the afternoon,
supporting their team mates, challenging themselves
and developing their dribbling, throwing, balancing,
throwing and racing skills! Please see the report and
results below. A big well done to Class 3 for surviving
the rainy weather at Harlow Carr on Wednesday
below.

Workshop Opportunity for Class 3 and 4

Thursday, all pupils in Class 3 and 4 have the
opportunity to attend a street dance workshop at
Sicklinghall on Monday morning led by a visiting

Girls’ Football Tournament- Percy Fields, Scotton.
Girls in Class 3 will have brought home a letter this
evening inviting them to take part in next week’s girls’
football tournament at Percy Fields. This tournament is
led by the Football Association and
coaching received each Friday morning this term. The
team will be accompanied by Mr Shillito and the
tournament takes place within school time, beginning
after lunch.
Great Yorkshire Show
As has been the policy in previous years, in
Local Authority expectations and in consultation with
other Knaresborough schools, there is no scope within
the holidays in term time legislation to make an
exception for events such as the Great Yorkshire Show.
This will mean that absence to att
Yorkshire Show would be recorded as unauthorised
absence. To clarify the system of issuing fines for
unauthorised absence, each school is required to
submit returns to the Local Authority for any pupil
whose unauthorised absence rises above 5
a 6 month period. For example, if a child has been
absent for 5 school days due to family holiday, any
further unauthorised absence would trigger a fine from
the Local Authority.
At Goldsborough School, we greatly value the importance placed on the education of our pupils by you as parents and carers. We recognise your commitment to supporting the school and working in partnership to achieve the best outcomes for your child. We appreciate that this policy does not reward or recognise

reciate that this policy does not reward or recognise
this commitment. In order to be able to apply the policy consistently and fairly to the whole school community, it was felt that making an exception for this event could lead to inconsistency when considering exceptional circumstances for future similar events/exhibitions and on an individual basis. Arrears and ParentPay - There are currently a large number of outstanding payments on ParentPay that amount to £3,300 in total. Services yet to be paid for include Breakfast Club, after school clubs, residential visits, trips and swimming lessons. It is vital that ParentPay accounts are kept up to date as the school's budget is not able to stand such a large amount of arrears without making cuts to provision elsewhere in school.
In addition to the arrears leaving the above deficit in school funds, the administration time taken to calculate arrears, issue text message reminders and produce letters to request payment mean that a disproportionate amount of time is being spent on this one aspect work in our school office. us to survey the area to see if it would be better to
make a luxury bug hotel in the field or in the wood. We
decided that it was better to not make one at all and
leave the bugs in their natural homes.
We ate lunch in a greenhouse where we saw a pitcher
plant eat a moth.
After lunch we went into the Learning Room where we
made a picture of a flower with pieces of plants we’d
collected. We were then given labels with names of
different plant parts and tried to stick them in the correct
place. There were lots of different parts like stigma,
anther, filament, stamen and Arthur labelled the ovary.
The anther is the male part of the flower which attracts
bees with scent so the bee will collect pollen, fly to
another plant and take the pollen to the female part of
that plant.
Sports Day – a report by Jessica D and Emily
In the morning we were mixed up in the classrooms to
make banners for our teams. We wrote our names on
and facts about our team country. Jessica was in
Poland and Emily in Ukraine. After lunch we went to the
cricket field. First the team activities were water
scramble, long jump, hockey dribbling around cones,
netball shooting through a hoop, balancing while
walking on a bench with a beanbag on our head, javelin
which was made of foam and had wings on top and a
drinks station where we also had a biscui

different races – running, skipping and beanbag

cheering us on. Jessica and Emily both liked the
