Dear Community Members and Festival Guests,Welcome to the Annual Geneseo Summer Festival! For the

34rd consecutive year, the Summer Festival is being sponsored by the Geneseo Rotary Club. The Geneseo Welcome Center has been an active partner in planning for fun and family-friendly activities for our Festival. We very much appreciate and thank them for their collaboration in this wonderful event. Please support the merchants, food vendors and downtown businesses throughout the two days of the festival and beyond.

Rotary is a volunteer service organization. Our motto is “Service Above Self ” and nearly every dollar we raise is returned locally to improve the lives of people here in our community. Each year we conduct the Festival 50/50 Drawing to raise money for a worthy cause. This year, the proceeds will go to CURE Childhood Cancer Association. CURE Childhood Cancer Association was formed in Rochester, NY in 1976 by a group of parents who lost their children to cancer. They wanted to provide support to parents going through the same experience, as well as raise money for cancer research. Today, CURE is the only organization in Rochester

focused solely on meeting the emotional, social, financial, and educational needs of children diagnosed with cancer and chronic blood disorders. Our selection was influenced because of the assistance that CURE provided one of our own members and her family when their child was diagnosed with Leukemia. We are all very grateful that CURE was available to assist a member of our community.

Our ability to give back is largely due to your generous support of the Festival. I would like to personally thank all the advertisers, vendors, businesses and patrons that make this event possible each year. Nik and the Nice Guys is a high energy, rock and roll dance band and wedding dance band featuring 11 multi-talented musicians/performers, including female singer/dancers and a hom section. Besides playing great mainstream rock and roll, the group conveys a touch of Saturday Night Live craziness, while at the same time encouraging audience participation and dancing.

Nik and the Nice Guys’ popularity stems from their role as house band on two early 90’s TV series’: ESPN’s “The Lighter Side of Sports” and the NBC/syndicated TV series “The Bob Uecker Sports Show.” Nik and the Nice Guys performing credits include performances at 80-plus Super Bowl parties, numerous shows at past Winter and Summer Olympics, Canada’s Grey Cup Festival, and special events hosted by Sports lllustrated, ESPN, Lee Jeans, Reebok, Apple Computer, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Blue Jays, and Time Magazine etc.

Gary the Happy Pirate has been promoted to admiral and has handed over his ship to a whole new crew. Jump on board and sing and dance to all the Happy Pirate favorites.

“My friend Doug Ladd and I started performing in 1989 as Doug and Gary, and I carried on performing as Gary the Happy Pirate for another 20

years,” says Gary Smith, who also runs the charitable Pirate Toy Fund to provide toys to children in need. “I’ve loved entertaining thousands of kids in the Rochester area and beyond, but now it’s time to entrust my ship to the next generation of pirates—and I couldn’t have picked a better crew to be at the helm!”

The new Happy Pirates crew is made up of Captain Gully, the ukulele-playing, fun-loving leader; Scuttle, the prankster; and Sharkbait, the silly crewmate with a big heart. The three characters are played by John Barthelmes, Matthew Roy, and Ryan Turco, who are improvisational artists, stage performers, and friends.

“Many of us grew up watching Gary the Happy Pirate and have been huge fans of his work,” says Turco. “I’m so pleased that he’s entrusted his legacy of great family entertainment to my friends and to me. We plan to continue his brand of fun-loving, interactive music that is enjoyable for children and adults alike.

Genesee Valley Rotary Camp (GVRC) provides a totally free outdoor, overnight camping experience for children with disabilities (ages 8-21).

GVRC takes place for one week each August at Camp Sam Wood - 440 beautifully wooded acres in Pike, NY, Wyoming County.

Activities include Adventure, Arts and Crafts, Archery, Music, Nature, Physical Education, Riflery, and Swimming. There is an in-ground pool & basketball courts for campers to enjoy.
