Jumpstart at Wheelock College

Requirements for Jumpstart:

12 hours per week: 8 hours with children and 4 hours planning, preparing and reflecting

Work on a team of 7-10 peers.

Take a 2 credit service-learning seminar course every Wednesday evening

Commit to 300 hours of service for the entire academic year

Benefits for Jumpstart Corps Members:

Gain exceptional experience and training in working with young children

Receive a $1,132 education award once you complete 300 hours of service

Fulfills the mandatory field experience that goes along with the first year HGD course

May count as your Work Study job if you have been granted work study

Build great friendships with a group of peers

• Do I need to work? If this does not count as Work Study, will I need to get another job?

• How do I feel about the large time commitment? Do I have time in my schedule for Jumpstart?

The Jumpstart program is a large time commitment that seeks passionate and motivated individuals. A few things to

ask yourself as you think about Jumpstart:

Jumpstart versus Field PlacementJumpstart Placement

-Students attend placement several days of the week for a total of 12 hours per week and 150 hours per semester

-Students will serve at the same preschool for both semesters

-Students may be able to use their Jumpstart placement as a work-study job AND as a field placement

Field Placement

-Student attend placement ten times for 3 hours each week for a total of 30 hours per semester

-Students will serve at two different placements: • Fall: children 0 to 5 years old • Spring: Ages 8-adult

-Students may not use their placement as a work-study job

A few final notes…-Students will complete CORI forms-Transportation costs are not included-Students will make a choice tomorrow about Field Placement

or Jumpstart-If they are unsure, they can sign up for both

-All students will have a 45 minute in-person or phone interview!
