• Persons served have a range of abilities to
self-evacuate but the majority would need verbal instructions to
evacuate safely.
• Some have mobility
issues and need wheelchairs or physical assistance.

MSFC Requirements
• Clients not capable of self-preservation– I-4 (new and existing)
– Page 21 2015 MSFC – Care Facility Classification. A facility that provides “Day Services” for adults shall be classified as Group I-4.
– Many do not fit this classification and must be evaluated based on actual use.
– Center based facility

• If built to a B occupancy i.e. training beyond the 12th grade under previous fire or building codes (previous codes did not have an I-4) –
• [B] Business Group B. Business Group B occupancy includes, among others, the use of a building or structure, or a portion thereof, for office, professional or service-type transactions, including storage of records and accounts. Business occupancies shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Educational occupancies for students above the 12th grade
• If the DT & H program hasn’t changed, it could continue to be inspected to a B occupancy.
