“The stunningly handsome” Pompeian Room (Los Angeles Times) hosts an eclectic young trio blazing a musical trail all their own. From bluegrass to klezmer, classical to jazz, ancient music to contemporary rock – buckle up as “the trio makes their energetic way through a continuously entertaining playlist” (Cleveland Classical) of genre-bending original arrangements and improvisations. Formed in 2008, the trio is equally at home on stage at the Kennedy Center, opening for the late Marvin Hamlisch, or performing one of their signature “Random Acts of Culture” at a local train station. If the bassoonist plays violin, the pianist plays clarinet, and the clarinetist plays klezmer, then it must be Sixth Floor Trio!

The coffered ceiling, stenciled beams, and old-world elegance of The Ebell’s Grand Salon lend both grandeur and intimacy to the impassioned playing of this award-winning ensemble. Formed at the Colburn Conservatory in 2007, the trio quickly captured top prizes at international competitions in Hamburg and Osaka. Applauded for their “powerful, colorful, and captivating” performances (Wedel-Schulauer Daily), the trio’s program pairs the graceful beauty of Mozart (Trio in G, K. 496) with the generous, soaring warmth of Brahms (Trio No.1 in B, Op. 8) and the crystalline, mysterious beauty of Takemitsu (Between Tides).

Following the concert, join us for a dinner catered by The Ebell honoring Barbara Jury, The Da Camera Society’s Lead Season Sponsor. Dinner details (separate purchase) to be announced in January.

The stagecoach barn of a mid-19th century landmark and former home of “The Father of the Port of Los Angeles” welcomes the return of “the Rembrandt of Appalachian fiddle”, whose new trio promises to blow open the barn doors with an afternoon of old-time music making!
