Our MissionCollege Bound Opportunities (CBO) mentors economically disadvantaged students to unleash their

potential, graduate college, pursue meaningful professions, and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

From College to CareerBy Jorge Castellanos

CBO has helped me in a variety of ways that cannot be replicated, and I do not know where I would be without their support. We are not a wealthy family and, with four siblings, affording

college was a very real problem. In addition, my dad had to fight cancer for a year when I was in high school. The medical bills put a severe strain on my family ... and on my dreams of going to college. But when I became a CBO scholar, the option of college became very real for me.

Now, I’m in my final year of college at Elmhurst College and getting ready for my next phase in life: a career. CBO offers many seminars

and programs called Career Prep to help students prepare for and find a job after college. Through this program, I have taken part in workshops centered on resume writing, interviewing, and networking. I was even able to acquire professional work attire through the Suited for the Job night. Not only did this help beef up my wardrobe, I received some great tips on what to wear and what not to wear in the work

environment. Most importantly, I was able to secure an internship with Old World Industries through CBO’s annual Internship Fair for the last two summers. This was invaluable to me. It felt great to solve problems by myself and even be integrated into their international customer department. Because of my experiences at Old World Industries, I have decided to further my education by going to business school.

I know that I have many successful years ahead of me, and I have CBO to thank for prepping me for my career.
