The theory is based on Marinetti’s Manifesto. Futurism compares museums to cemeteries. It revolts

against all cultural traditions. It glorifies the “beauty of speed”. The general direction is to

express the changing modern world. The science is an inspiration. As science, art must meet the

intellectual needs of our time.

Futurist dynamism was to be rendered in terms both of psychic and physical phenomena. Phenomenon of

after-sensation, irradiation and the various types of geometrical optical illusion accounts for their

view that everything moves, everything changes rapidly. Moving objects are multiplied, deformed.

Because the perception of light and movement thus destroys the autonomy of objects in space and the

conventional concept of space. The attempts to break down the traditional psychological distance

between the aesthetic object and the spectator, is based on hypothesis of an unconscious physical

response to, and physical identification with , the object contemplated.

Futurism is an aesthetic relativism and a conceptual image of reality. The truths of yesterday are

today pure lies. Traditional form and color could no longer be sufficient. Art is seen as a force to

influence and change the evolution of the real world. The future was the only authentic dimension of

reality. Rejecting all metaphysical systems, it replaced the goodness reason by the new religion of

speed.

Futurism is the aesthetics of speed, plastic dynamism and kinetics. Broken colors and short brush-

strokes of divisionism and repetition of forms with symbolic connotation and different simultaneous

impressions are pieced together.

I modeled in cardboard the support of our grouз’s Futurism sculpture using the futurism visual principles. I

did that because I made the research for theory and visual principles of Futurism and I had some model-

making experience before. I wanted to define the visual style that our group could follow for the final

output. At the suggestion of a teammate to make the support looking aggressive, I got inspired by Giacomo

Balla’s sculpture. However during the modeling process, I had to improve the ability to model plastic shapes

into cardboard.

I have always been interested in animal world and more specifically in insects. I find them as a very good

source of inspiration for designing transport. I think that a good design means that every design piece has

a visual content, a visual idea, there is an aesthetic story behind the form. Having this principle in my

mind , I tried to design a truck that will look as an ant. It was important to identify the ant’s features

elemets in order to archive this goal. I designed the front bottom using ant’s mandibles. The A-pillar shape

was inspired by ant’s antennas. I also used cylindrical shapes inspired by some ant’s body parts.

Plastic shapes used in Zaha Hadid’s architecture are inspirational for transport design and these principles

can be easily applied to the interior design of a car. Lines that describe these movements are varied and

visual interconnected, and this gives dynamism and illusion of movement to the interior space. Admiring the

monumental forms of modern architecture, I tried to use the same principles but in a volumetric spatial

composition( interior space of a car).

I find the most significant in Umberto Boccione’s activity the writing of

his Manifesto of Futurist Sculpture, published in April 1914. It was

Boccioni's intellectual and physical launch into sculpture, as there are no

known works before this period. Yet by the end of 1913 he had completed what

is considered his masterpiece “Unique Forms of Continuity in Space”

Our group sculpture was successful because we used the theoretical and visual principles of Futurism. We

represented the idea of dynamics, technological development by using a futurism stylized car and we also

showed futurism conceptual space. We used the specific futurism colors seen in paintings (red as a

representation of war, green brown and a grey tone) in order to archive a good quality. The sculpture also

has a good quality of model making.

The Futurism movement was about the glorification of technology and speed. The “H car” by the French

designer Thomas Pastor is a good example of using the futurism principles. “H” is for Hybrid which is

electrical & Hydrogen. The use of specific plastic shapes and features lines also reminds the Futurism

forms. The red color used is not accidental, it is characteristic in many futurism artwork.

When working in group, different skills, strengths and different ways of viewing things are gathered

together and this helps to get things finished much faster. You can also learn from other member. The

ideas are a lot and more diverse. The bad things of working in group are: the compromise you should do

for the other member’s idea , you can not “shine” on your own too much, also there are sometimes people

that want to be leaders and they try to do that simultaneously.

As a group leader I found out that I need to develop myself in terms of treatment the other’s weak ideas,

in order not to offend their views. I need to improve on an argumentation that will help those person to

think the right way. Also I need to sketch more in order to have a better hand drawing.
