It was largely inspired by the
development of cubism .
Futurism was founded in 1909 by the poet
Filippo Thommas Marinetti. The main
figures associated with the movement
where the artists, Umberto Boccioni,
Giacemo Balla, Gino Severint, the
musician Luigi Russolo and the
architect Antonio Sant’Elia.
Futurist Architecture
The Futurist architect Antonio Sant'Elia
expressed his ideas of modernity in his
drawings for La Città Nuova (The New
City) (1912–1914). This project was
never built and Sant'Elia was killed in the
First World War, but his ideas influenced
later generations of architects and artists.

The futurism admired speed, technology, youth and violence. The car, the aeroplane and the industrial city, all that
represented the technological of humanity over nature.
Futurist art focused on machine and motion. They
often broke light and color down into a series of
dots or geometric forms through a process called
divisionism(the separation of colours into
individuals dots or patches)
Futurism influenced many modern art
movements of the 20th century which in
turn influenced the development of
graphic design.
This technology was an important
influence on their approach to show
movement in their painting encouraging
an abstract art with rhythms.
