Photovoltaic - Opportunities and Risks

Manufacturing cost of traditional crystalline

modules is continuously decreasing. In last

5 years, China Top level manufacturers

have reduced cost by more than 50%. In

next 3 years, they will endeavor to reduce

by 30% more.

2013, China PV new installation reached

11.3GW, which is the largest one in the world.

Japan is No. 2 with new installation of 6.9GW;

USA is the third one with 4.75GW.

In 2014, planned new installation of China is

14 GW , of which 8GW is distributed PV

Plants.

China major energy base is in west area,

while the main load is in east coastal area.

Energy yield in northwest PV plants is

even much more than local consumption.

How to transmit solar power to consumers

thousands miles away is the largest

challenge to existing power system.
