Future Challenges
for Biotech and
Supply Chain
in Agribusiness
By Suzette Flores
For IE Business School
application
With the global population expected to reach 9 billion by 2050,
and knowing that increasing world energy demand cannot be satisfied much
longer with fossil fuels. Biotech & supply chains will face a huge preassure to
increase crop production, use less resources and be able to supply to any
location at competitive prices.

Some of the key challenges that might be
faced…
Collaboration/connectivity along
the chain
Sustainability
Biotech and supply Chain might resolve the
need of using less resources, consuming
less energy and generating less waste.
Reducing complexity in Spply Chains will
be encouraged to reduce transportation cost
and footprint.
Future Challenge for Supply Chain & Biotechnology…
Specialized talent
More regulation and complexity will demand
more specialized talent.
It will be critical to close the gap between
developed and developing countries by fairly
value people contributions, to prevent brain
drain.
Future Challenge for Supply Chain & Biotechnology…
Regulation & security
With more globalization, restrictions and
controls are expected to increase when
moving goods across the world, specially
when biologicls, and GMO´s are involved in
the production process.
Product traceability will be a must at real
time and at an affordable technology/price.
Producttraceability
Future Challenge for Supply Chain & biotechnology…
New Business Models
As Biotech is still in a growing
stage and organizations realize
more and more about the
importance of their Supply Chain
models in their business
performance and customers
experience, it is still a long
journey to discover how much the
innovation in these arenas could
reshape the way we do business
and trasnform the world.
Future Challenge for Supply Chain & Biotechnology…
Costeffectiveness
With biotech as a potential solution for health improvement and food
supply, and the supply chains the means to deliver those solutions to the
humanity, the Nations anc Companies will face the difficult challenge of
making them available for everybody, not only for a priviledge group of
people.
Future Challenge for Supply Chain & biotechnology…
Influencing stake holders and facilitating the
adoption of biotechnology and innovative Supply Chain approaches. Help to improve the life of farmers and customers specially in developing countries.
Get Global responsibility on
Supply Chain where I can demonstrate that Supply Chain
could be not only a key contributor to results, but a game changer in the organizations and
new business models.
Developing,
leading and
disseminating sustainability practices in supply Chain
Creating new opportunities
and developing talent in the Agribusiness sector
Which role would I like to play in the mid term in this sector?
