Modus was founded in 2000 as a British company in pursuit of design and manufacturing excellence, working with a host of talented designers from around the globe to produce exceptional, creative furniture.
Today we still hold true to the same aim: To create furniture of the highest standards in terms of design, quality and durability that enriches life today without compromising tomorrow.

From our production facilities in the rolling South Somerset countryside we manufacture beautiful, inspiring and meticulously considered furniture with vision and integrity: Innovative furniture that mirrors the subtle cultural and lifestyle shifts we experience, yet at the same time, embraces traditional craftsmanship, outstanding quality and longevity of design and function.
We are an independent company free to adapt our designs or create bespoke ranges to suit your needs. Every individual within our company has a key part to play in the product and service you receive. Our reputation has been built upon exceptional design, quality, durability and positive experience.

We work with an array of accomplished international designers and emerging creative talent to produce furniture of the highest standards. Every piece has been judiciously considered ensuring exceptional quality and longevity of both design and product.
01 Arik Levy—Artist, technician, photographer, designer, filmmaker; Arik Levy’s skills are multi-disciplinary and his work can be seen in prestigious galleries and museums worldwide. Hailing originally from Israel and moving to Europe after his first participation in a group sculpture exhibition in Tel Aviv in 1988, Levy currently works in his studio in Paris. Respected for his furniture and light designs on all continents, Levy also creates high-tech clothing lines and accessories for firms in the Far East.

02 Patrick Norguet—Born in Tours in 1969, award-winning industrial designer Patrick Norguet studied at the ESDI in Paris and worked as a scenographer for fashion brands including Dior, Guerlain and Lanvin. He founded his design studio in Paris in 2000 and now works with international manufacturers such as Cassina, Alias, Kristalia and Tacchini.

11 Jonathan Prestwich—Jonathan Prestwich spent six years as chief assistant to German designer Burkhard Vogtherr in France, managing projects ranging from residential furniture for Arco to office furniture for Fritz Hansen and winning Best of Neo Con and Red Dot design awards, amongst others. Since 2003 Jonathan has lived and worked in London as an independent design consultant working with several highly respected furniture producers. He is influenced by the relationship between modern technology and nature, with a goal to create simple elegant innovation. Connect 068Hold 075Mix 070
04 Morph—Morph UK is a design partnership established by Bill Holding and Ben Cox in 1999 after they met while studying Furniture and Product design in Nottingham. Their wide-ranging interest in all things creative is reflected in the scope of projects they have completed, from the development of luxury products for Marc Jacobs, shop interiors for Mandarina Duck with Michael Young, lighting with Chris Levine, Prada fragrance bottles with David James, a range of ceramics for Harrods, through to working with artists such as Sarah Staton and Gary Hume.

05 Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto and Ola Rune—The Swedish design partnership Claesson Koivisto Rune was founded in 1995 as an architectural office but is, in the classic Scandinavian way, multi-disciplinary, practising both architecture and design. Completed commissions include houses such as the Sfera Building in Kyoto and the Swedish Ambassador’s residence in Berlin, interiors such as the Operakällaren gourmet restaurant in Stockholm, as well as designs for manufacturers including Cappellini and Iittala.

06 Monica Förster—Monica Förster, creator of some of the most internationally renowned objects in contemporary Swedish design today, is based in Stockholm but grew up close to the Arctic Circle in the very north of Sweden. Her work is categorized by a strong sense of pure form mixed with a never-ending curiosity for new materials and technology.

07 Sir Kenneth Grange and SmithMatthias—Grange Smith is a new collaboration of experience and youth: Sir Kenneth Grange, well known designer of many familiar products and Jack Smith of SmithMatthias who graduated from the prestigious Design Products course at the Royal College of Art in 2011.

08 Magnus Long—Magnus Long is a British strategic and industrial designer. He founded the award-winning collective Viable London and is an Associate Lecturer at Central St Martins University. Magnus Long Design Studio in London is an Industrial Design office working within furniture, product, lighting and spatial design. The studio works with a growing list of renowned companies engaged in manufacture, craft and engineering.

09 Stephen Burks—Stephen Burks is one of the most recognized American industrial designers of his generation. He and his New York studio, Readymade Projects, have been responsible for creative direction and industrial design on projects ranging from retail interiors and events to packaging, consumer products, lighting, furniture and home accessories. He has developed innovative concepts for renowned international brands such as Cappellini, Estée Lauder, Herman Miller and Vitra, as well as continuing his commitment to sustainable design in the developing world.

12 Simon Pengelly—Simon Pengelly started making furniture in his father’s workshop aged eight. His practical experience and an affinity for materials and processes are central to his design work. Understanding materials and manufacturing techniques is fundamental to Simon’s approach, combined with a passionate desire to create accessible production furniture with ‘soul’. His studio, Pengelly Design, now collaborates globally with the most progressive design-led companies working within the realms of product and furniture production.

13 PearsonLloyd—PearsonLloyd is an award-winning London based design studio founded by Tom Lloyd and Luke Pearson in 1997. The studio’s work focuses on design for manufacture and strategic research in the fields of furniture, transport design and the public realm. In 2008 Tom and Luke were awarded the distinction of Royal Designers for Industry by The Royal Society of Arts and in August 2012 were named in the top 50 designers Shaping the Future by Fast-Co Magazine in New York. 10 Christophe Pillet—Born in 1959, Christophe Pillet has been living and working in Paris since 1988. He graduated from Nice’s Arts Décoratifs College in 1985 and became Master of Domus Academy in 1986. In 1993 he started to develop his activity independently. He engages in many fields: product and furniture design, interior decoration, architecture, scenography and artistic direction.

11 Michael Sodeau—Michael Sodeau studied product design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design before setting up Michael Sodeau Studio in 1997. Since its inception, the multidisciplinary studio has specialised in creative thinking and simple solutions. Projects cover a wide scope of disciplines from furniture, lighting and product design for a variety of international manufacturers as well as small artisan producers, to interior and exhibition design.
Sodeau’s vision encourages a true relationship between people and the items they own, questions such as “How do people relate to objects in a personal way?” and “How can an object have a character?” shape his work.
