Fundamentals of Art
Fundamentals of art is an introductory course that exposes students to a variety of 2D and 3D art techniques, materials and artists. Methods include but not limited to drawing, painting,
design, ceramics, sculpture etc. This course is a prerequisite for many other courses in the
department.
CeramicsCeramics is a course that allows students to
discover different methods of clay hand building. These include pinch, slab, coil and the utilization of
molds. Students will also learn the stages of clay from wet to glaze ware and assist with reclaiming (recycling) clay and operating kilns. Students will
also have an introduction to wheel throwing.
SculptureThis course allows students to discover different methods/techniques in creating three dimensional art. Material discovery includes but is not limited to found objects, plaster, cardboard, clay, wood, fabric etc.
Lettering and CalligraphyCalligraphy meanings “beautiful writing.” Students will learn traditional dip pen methods with nibs and ink in additional to hand lettering with a variety of materials and methods. Students will apply the skills they acquire in projects such as book making, cards, posters, logos etc. Students will also study typography and how to incorporate text in art.
Computer GraphicsComputer Graphics is a course that focuses on Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Students with learn the functions of each program and apply skills to a
variety of projects. These projects include, but are not limited to, portraits, landscapes, logos, album cover, collage etc.
