Setting aside - - - Focusing on - - -

That is the idea behind Lent.

Setting aside something that seems fairly important -

in order to focus on Someone who is so much more

important.

The Season of Lent is a time in the church and in

our lives when we are encouraged to focus on the

Lord’s presence through prayer, fasting, and acts of

love. We do this through setting aside those things

that keep us from this focus.

Lent includes the forty days preceding Easter,

beginning with Ash Wednesday (March 6 this year).

Sundays are not included in Lent as they are days of

celebration, not fasting.

The impact and meaning of Lent are heightened in

our lives when we do something out of the ordinary.

That is the intent behind our Lenten journey each

year.

Our sermon focus for Lent this year will be based on

the final recorded statements from Jesus as He hung

on the cross: forgiveness, foreverness, fulfillment,

forsakenness, finished, and faithfulness.

I have prepared a Scripture reading guide that will

walk you through Scriptures intended to make this

season as meaningful as possible.

Hope you will join us for Ash Wednesday worship

you closer to God’s presence.

First United Methodist Church Henderson,

The family of John “Jack” Luckert acknowledges with deep appreciation your kind expression of sympathy.

First of all, thank you for your many prayerful concerns for Jack during his nursing home days and even before.

Also, thank you for providing a pizza dinner for the family. Everyone loves pizza!

Praise God, Jack is now walking and talking again on streets of gold praising our Lord! Amen

Love & Prayers,

Dorothy Luckert

The Lenten and Easter seasons are fast approaching. Both seasons provide us the opportunity to express

our worship through music. The Chancel Choir will be practicing to make the season a truly worshipful

time in our church. In order for this to be done successfully, rehearsals will begin Wednesday, February 27,

at 7:00 pm. Perhaps there are those of you who would enjoy being in the choir for this occasion. We will

rehearse from 7:00-7:45 pm on just the music for the Tenebrae Good Friday service and Resurrection Sunday.

The regular choir members will rehearse after that on weekly service music.

Concert update…The concert series on different types of church music continues…

March 24, 2:00 pm in the sanctuary—Jon Starling, HHS choral director, will present a concert of

spirituals and other hymn styles. We are all aware of Jon’s talent and spiritual maturity. This

promises to be an outstanding event.

April 14, 4:00 pm in the Great Hall—Brad, Caroline, and Cooper Perry will present a concert of

contemporary church music. Brad is married to Shelby Lee Perry, daughter of Scott and Brenda Lee.

The Perry family will be moving this summer to Palestine where Brad is pastoring at Living Springs

Assembly of God Church.

Grace to you all………Jack

Coming Soon...The Breakfast Club!

The Breakfast Club is a new Sunday

morning ministry for children

grades K-5th beginning early 2019.

It will be a combination of children’s

church and Sunday school.

Children will gather in the new children’s area on the 3rd

floor from 9:45 to 10:45 for doughnuts, fellowship, lively

large group worship including music, and a Bible story.

Children will then breakout into small groups to engage the

Bible story through crafts, games & drama in age appropriate

ways.

We are excited about this new way of ministering to our

children on Sunday mornings, and are asking for your help to

bring it to fruition. Please contact Debbie Tipps if you feel

God calling you to serve Him through this new ministry.

Summer camp at Lakeview is the best!

Registration is now open for summer 2019 Visit www.lakeviewmcc.org to register campers entering

session 3, June 23-28. The deadline to register and pay is

Friday, June 7th. The cost is $300 for each FUMC camper

and $400 for all other campers. We will need 1 adult

counselor per 5 campers, and that is gender specific.

YOUTH DIRECTOR SEARCH UPDATE ... BIG TIME shout out to some of our very dedicated parents who are keeping our youth ministry rolling along while we pray and search for our next Youth Director.

Sunday morning and Wednesday evening ministries and activities are happening, due to the commitment of two special people: Emili Foster and Stacie Nix.

We are also grateful to those who provide meals each Wednesday.

We have several resumes from individuals who are interested in joining us in a full time capacity as our Youth Director. We will be interviewing these candidates shortly after Spring Break.

Continue to keep in your prayers: the process; our youth and their families; and this important area of ministry.

Our Second Floor Renovations are looking amazing!!

If you haven’t taken a look lately, you need to.

Just a few more items that need to be completed, and then we will be finished.

Thank you for your patience during this remodel,

and looking forward to many years enjoying this area.
