Global Deployment of PalmSecure Palm Vein Biometric Authentication SystemIn 2004, Fujitsu Limited commercialized a biometric authentication system that identifies individuals

based on their palm vein patterns. Since then, under the brand name “PalmSecure,” Fujitsu has provided the technology to financial institutions and a wide array of other businesses and organizations for PC login, physical access control, attendance management, library book lending management, and other applications. Global shipments of PalmSecure Systems began in June 2006. The Fujitsu Group had sold 30,000 units in 34 countries as of September 2007(*).

2

Features of contactless palm veinbiometric authentication technology

-- Veins are internal to the body, making it difficult to forge an identity and thereby enabling a high level of security

-- Contactless authentication is hygienic-- Palm veins contain about 300 times more

information than a finger, enabling highly accurate authentication

-- Palm veins are less susceptible to constriction caused by cold weather

Offshore Development InitiativesSecuring Software Engineers

As a result of various demographic trends such as a low birthrate and the retirement of the baby-boom generation, Japan faces a shortage of skilled software engineers. Securing human resources is now a serious issue for the IT services industry. Software engineers can be broadly divided into those involved in customer-related upstream systems development processes (from defining requirements to systems design), where the aim is to define customer requirements, and those involved in applying the latest technology to create innovative product and service solutions.

In the West, the common solution adopted for securing software engineers is to source the requisite software development capabilities from other regions of the world. This approach is now becoming necessary in Japan.

Use of Offshore Contract OperationsJapanese firms have been developing offshore operations since the 1990s, mostly in the manufacturing

and retailing sectors. Recently, companies in other industries, such as finance, have also begun to subcontract operations to offshore vendors.

The mainstream off-shoring models are to subcontract operations on a large scale or to subcontract development projects involving repetitive processes. China has been the primary destination for Japanese subcontracting, reflecting the greater familiarity with the Japanese language. Japanese firms are also increasingly contracting out operations to vendors in India, which has extensive experience in handling development contracts from the US, Europe, and ASEAN nations as well as a reputation for high-quality development work, an abundant pool of engineers, and expertise in the latest technologies.

While concentrating human resources for upstream software development processes in Japan, Fujitsu aims to bring innovation to its software development processes by utilizing offshore services.

Establishment of Offshore Development Center

To make further progress in this area, Fujitsu established the Offshore Development Center as part of the SI Service Innovation Unit in September 2006. This facility centralizes operations that were previously carried out by individual divisions and group companies.

TRIOLE IT Infrastructure Platform—Showcasing the Latest TechnologyWhat Is TRIOLE?

Business success in the future will, to a considerable extent, hinge on systems that possess three key attributes: the “agility” to enable quick expansion of a business based on an early grasp of market needs; the “efficiency” to maximize benefits with minimal IT investment; and the “continuity” to enable stable operations 24/7. TRIOLE—Fujitsu’s IT infrastructure solution—responds to these business needs.

TRIOLE was unveiled in February 2002. Since then, by applying to TRIOLE the technologies and expertise accumulated in its mainframes business and its track record in integrating open-standard systems, Fujitsu has supported customers with optimal system installations and operational services. Fujitsu is utilizing TRIOLE templates to standardize the lifecycle process, from planning to design, delivery, operation, and diagnosis,

thereby “industrializing” the process for creating IT infrastructure globally. TRIOLE templates create optimal system environments by integrating Fujitsu products—servers, storage, network, middleware and other products underpinned by the three core technologies of virtualization, automation, and integration—with carefully selected products from other companies. UK-based Fujitsu Services, in particular, has achieved high growth by using TRIOLE to differentiate its services business.

Measures to Optimize IT InfrastructureTo optimize customer IT infrastructure, it is vitally important to take the specific elements required for

optimization—such as servers, storage products, networks, security, and operation—and enable customers to clearly understand, from the earliest stages of deployment, how this IT infrastructure can be easily used to perform the specific application scenarios they require. Fujitsu has accumulated system installation and operation information from some 9,000 proposals and projects over the past 4 years. This information has been used as the basis for analyzing customer needs and modeling the various elements for optimizing IT infrastructure with TRIOLE.

The Next Step for TRIOLETo support total service proposals for customer, Fujitsu is developing TRIOLE for Infrastructure to support

IT infrastructure; TRIOLE for Applications to support the development and linkage of applications; and TRIOLE for Business to support business processes. The company is also developing TRIOLE for Services as a system for managing and operating all three. To this end, based on its own R&D technology and collaboration with industry partners, Fujitsu is focusing on IT infrastructure virtualization, linking applications through a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach, business process management, and operation based on ITIL to bring new innovations to information technology.

Electronic PaperElectronic paper is an exciting new media, combining the advantages

of printed material—easy to read, lightweight and thin, zero power consumption—and of displays—rewriteability, convergence with digital

information, and resource- saving. Electronic paper is expected to be used in electronic books, as well as a host of other applications, ranging from displays for a variety of electronic devices and IC cards, to advertisements, electronic shelf display tags, and electronic sign boards.

Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu Laboratories Limited and Fujitsu Frontech Limited have been jointly developing electronic paper using reflective cholesteric liquid crystal films. In July 2005, we announced the successful development of a film substrate-based electronic paper capable of displaying 4,096 colors. Prior to that, most electronic paper displayed monochrome or single colors. In contrast, Fujitsu’s electronic paper boasts a number of distinguishing merits: bright enough to be used comfortably, the display of multiple colors, mm thickness, flexibility enabling display even when the screen is bent, and continuous display of same image without need for electricity.

In January 2006, this technology was used for electronic shelf display tags in the Japan Future Store Project, an experimental trial of electronic tags sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Subsequently, in February 2007, SOFTBANK TELECOM Corp. used this technology in the prototype of a public wireless LAN-connected electronic paper terminal.

In terms of commercially available products, in April 2007, Fujitsu Frontech unveiled FLEPia, the world’s first portable information terminal to feature color electronic paper. Sample shipments are planned from the end of October 2007.

Principal Subsidiaries and Affiliated CompaniesThe Americas

In the U.S., the financial market turmoil triggered by the subprime loan crisis is expected to have an impact on the real economy, suggesting that some degree of economic slowdown is unavoidable in fiscal 2007. Against this backdrop, Fujitsu is strengthening its existing businesses in the Americas—namely, servers, storage products, and PCs at Fujitsu Computer Systems, optical transmission systems at Fujitsu Network Communications, and consulting and outsourcing services at Fujitsu Consulting. In addition, through coordinated efforts among these companies, we will promote integrated solutions. By providing solutions targeted at key industries such as retailing, healthcare, and financial services, and driving business expansion through acquisitions, we plan to accelerate growth despite the challenging economic environment.

EuropeEMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), with its rich diversity in languages, currencies and cultures, is

expected to experience strong growth in demand for IT services in the coming years. With Western Europe, home to many major customers, and promising emerging markets in Eastern Europe and Russia, EMEA is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 7% between 2005 and 2009. This market was estimated to be worth approximately 50 trillion yen in 2006. In April 2007, Fujitsu established Fujitsu EMEA PLC with the mission of devising strategy for the whole of EMEA and overseeing Fujitsu's operating entities in this region. We are strengthening our business by building a framework of cooperation among regional Fujitsu companies, as well as a global framework that links each company with headquarters. The goals in the services business are to enhance Fujitsu’s strong position in the UK government/public sector as well as to expand business in continental Europe and with private-sector clients. In the system platforms business, we will further promote the TRIOLE optimization model, strengthen data center capabilities, and promote next-generation networks (NGN) for telecommunications carriers.

Asia and OceaniaIn China, IT investment is projected to maintain a compound annual growth rate of % or more from 2006

through 20. Having designated the rapidly growing technology solutions segment as a strategic business, Fujitsu is optimizing and reallocating resources to this area. With regards to the solutions and SI businesses, in particular, Fujitsu will step up activities targeted at local customers as well as European and U.S. companies entering the market, in addition to ongoing business activities aimed at Japanese companies in China. Concurrently, in our system platforms sub-segment, we plan to redouble efforts in fields that are likely to be the focal point of IT investment in the future, such as telecommunications carriers, the government and public sector, and financial services.

Apart from China, the APAC region, including India, represents a massive market, with a population of roughly .7 billion. The information and telecommunications market in this region is estimated at upwards of 9 trillion yen and high annual growth of 8% is expected between 2005 and 2008. This region is an expansive area with a multitude of cultures and a wide range of customer expectations and needs. Fujitsu aims to promote its broad range of IT services in such areas as system design, system deployment and operational support, and consulting, and tailor its offerings to meet the needs of each market and customer. Fujitsu will also continue to supply high-quality solutions to customers developing their businesses globally. At the same time, we intend to actively expand our offshore development operations by outsourcing affiliates in the region, particularly in the Philippines and India. The region is also an important manufacturing base for Fujitsu, and we will seek to promote tighter regional integration of our business operations by expanding our sales in the region.

Environmental ActivitiesThe Origin of Fujitsu Group Environmental Management

Environmental management has been an integral part of the corporate culture and DNA of the company since its establishment. Fujitsu Group environmental activities are based on its philosophy of “manufacturing in harmony with nature.” For instance, at the time that the Kawasaki Plant was established, Fujitsu’s first president insisted that (1) the facility should not look like a factory from the outside, (2) the grounds should be laid out like a park, and (3) the site should be a model of neatness and cleanliness. Based on these concepts, a pond was created on the grounds in front of the building. At the time, building a factory in a landscaped industrial park was revolutionary, but the common environmental ethos provides a seamless connection with the activities of the Fujitsu Group today. Successive generations of managers and employees have inherited an environmentally oriented culture, which Fujitsu sees as a valuable asset.

Fujitsu Group Environmental ManagementFujitsu Group environmental activities progress along a path that is defined by a group of core

principles known as The FUJITSU Way, a guiding philosophy for the behavior of the company and its employees. The environment is defined as one of the five values of The FUJITSU Way. Based on these principles, Fujitsu has formulated the Fujitsu Group Environmental Policy as a philosophy to guide the company’s environmental activities. The Fujitsu Group Environmental Protection Program sets out action plans covering specific activities.

In this way, Fujitsu's senior management has conveyed its strong conviction that environmental activities are an important pillar of management, that all employees should share a strong commitment to environmental protection, and that the company should work to fulfill its environmental objectives.

Fujitsu Group Environmental Protection ProgramFujitsu formulates medium-term environmental action programs to set forth concrete objectives for environmental activities. This approach has enabled

Fujitsu to register a number of significant achievements in the environmental field.

[Environmental management achievements]-- Converted entire product line into "Green Products" and offered "Super Green Products" with superior environmental profiles-- Resource reuse and recycling rate for collected end-of-life IT products surpassed 90%-- Offered Environmentally Conscious Solutions that help customers and society reduce the environmental impact of their activities-- Promoted “Green Factories” concept, including implementation of global warming countermeasures at production sites and achievement of zero waste

emissions-- Obtained globally integrated ISO14001 certification for Fujitsu Group, including group companies overseas

Stage V of the Fujitsu Group Environmental Protection Program is a new three-year plan beginning from fiscal 2007. Under this plan, Fujitsu aims to make further progress in five key areas : Improving the Environmental Value of Products and Services; Global Warming Countermeasures; Reinforcing Governance; Reinforcing Risk Management; and Environmental and Social Contributions.

Super Green Product:The FMV-BIBLO series of laptopPCs is the first in the world to useplant-based plastic for the main casing.

Super Green Product:The PRIMERGY TX20 server is themost compact in the world for its class and among the most energy efficient.

Global warming countermeasures:Introduction of NAS battery systemsevens out the power load by making use of electricity supplied at night.

The Mission of Fujitsu GroupBesides reducing its own environmental impact, as a provider of IT products and services, the Fujitsu Group also aims to contribute to the realization of a

sustainable society by helping customers and communities around the world to reduce environmental impact.
