HISTORY: FSHIisMayorHickenlooper'scalltothefaithcommunityfor1,000congregations toembraceandmentor1,000homelessfamiliesduringthecity'stenyearplantoend homelessness.Theplan,calledDenver'sRoadHome,wasinstitutedin2005.AsofOctober31, 2010,301congregationshaveansweredthecall,and772familiesandseniorshavebeen partneredwithfaithcommunitymentorteamsandmovedintopermanenthousing.
PROGRAM: FSHIpairsafaithcommunitymentorteamwithahomelessfamilyorseniortoprovidethefirstmonth'srentanddeposit,aswellasmentoring,withtheendgoalofsustainablepermanenthous-ing.Trainedmentorsofferthefamilyphysical,spiritual,financial,andemotionalassistanceforfourtosixmonths,overaminimumofsevenmeetings.
SUCCESS: Thankstotheeffortsofthefaithcommunity,2,089individualshavebeenplacedinhousingand 85%offamilieswhohadbeenmentoredarestillinhousingoneyearlater!Anumberofcities havemodeledprogramsaftertheFamilyandSeniorHomelessInititative,suchasLasVegas, Portland,FortCollins,Dallas,Boise,andKnoxville.
