SEPTEMBER 13TH SPEAKER IS

GREEN BAY GUIDE KEVIN STAHL!!

Our monthly club meetings resume in Septem-ber!! Join us on Wednesday September 12th when Licensed Captain and awesome musky guide Kevin Stahl will be talking Musky fishing on Green Bay! Many of us muskie hunters are looking for that trophy fish. We can certainly get lucky and come across a giant or you can honestly learn the right techniques and ways to catch these fish. Not all waters have the same potential in producing these giants. Kevin hon-estly feels NOVEMBER is trophy time on Green Bay. The main waters he fishes are the Metro areas of Green Bay include: Anderson

Lake, Archibald Lake, Chute Pond, Shawano Lake and Green Bay. If you fish with Kevin, you will have an experience you won't forget. He has written many articles like, Believers on boards, Sennett Tackle and Drifter Tackle, Fall Trolling on the Shield and many more. You will learn the tricks and tips form Kevin. A day of trolling the waters of Green Bay is an educating experience. Capt. Kevin can show you the simplicities of fishing the lower Bay of Green Bay with planer boards or take you on a journey to learn deeper trolling techniques on the various structures of the outer Bay. Green Bay has produced many fish over 50" and some even say Green Bay may produce the next world record. Fishing for trophy muskies isn't the only spe-cies option you can choose from with an outing thru RFRG/ Green Bay. Big Walleye, Northern Pike and huge Smallmouth are also very popular. Who says you can't mix business with pleasure. Call Kevin at 920-217-2894 to book a trip or shoot him an e-mail at [email protected]

Admission is $5.00/person at the door. Dinner is available to anyone arriving before the meeting and wishing to order from the menu. Updates on FRV outings, events, and member fishing reports begin at 7:00PM. The speaker usually begins around 7:30. The Schaumburg Golf Club is located at 401 N. Roselle Road in Schaumburg, IL. All meetings are open to the public, so grab a friend and come on out to see this awesome musky presentation!

ASIAN CARP P A G E 4

W W W . F R V M U S K I E . C O M

Army Corps of Engineers plans $275 million in defense to block Asian carp from reaching Great Lakes!

Underwater noise and powerful water jets are among the $275 million worth

of new defenses the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposes building at an

Illinois navigation lock on the Des Plaines River to prevent invasive Asian

Carp from reaching the Great Lakes. After several months of delay from

President Donald Trump's administration, the Corps on Monday released

its recommended plan for equipping the Brandon Road lock and dam near

Joliet, Ill., with several technological measures to block the voracious Asian

carp from moving into the lakes. An electrical barrier downstream of the lock

coupled with underwater noises would help deter the invaders, under the

Corps plan. Water jets would be installed along the bottom of a specially

designed channel leading into the lock to remove any fish entrained in barg-

es. The National Wildlife Federation said the Corps plan to make Asian carp

"run the gauntlet" before they reach the Brandon Road lock looked promising. "While we are still evaluating the draft report, our

initial reaction is that a combination of these options could possibly reduce the chance that an Asian carp gets through at each

stage," said Marc Smith, Great Lakes Conservation Director for the National Wildlife Federation. Since bighead and silver carp can

grow up to 100 pounds and eat 20% of their body weight in plankton each day, scientists and environmental advocates fear they

could devastate a Great Lakes fishery worth billions of dollars. Freshwater biologists say the carp likely would establish large popu-

lations in warmer, shallower bays, such as Green Bay. In June, a single two-foot-long Asian carp was pulled from the Chicago

Sanitary and Ship Canal approximately 9 miles from the shores of Lake Michigan. That location is above an existing electric barrier

system operated by the Corps. The system has a history of power outages and critics charge it does not operate at a strength to

repel even small fish. The proposed electric barrier at the Brandon Road lock is several miles closer to Lake Michigan than the

existing barriers. The Corps of Engineers is accepting public comments on the Brandon Road lock plan until September 21.

FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CIRCLE… FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CIRCLE… September 13th the FRV monthly meetings begin once again. Our guest speak-

er will be Green Bay Musky Guide Kevin Stahl. Green Bay is only a couple of

hours drive from our area, so Kevin’s talk might be an incentive to plan a Fall

trip to Green Bay using the information and guidance from Kevin’s presenta-

tion. Green Bay has produced many good size Muskies, maybe you will be the

lucky one! I am encouraging you to be a regular at our monthly meetings.

Your presence and participation is always most welcome and helpful. When new people come to our

monthly meetings and see a good turnout, it tells them something good and entertaining is going on!

It is an incentive for them to come back! Besides what can you be doing home on a Wednesday

evening in front of the tube that is more fun than then talking about Muskie fishing and maybe you

might win a new Musky rod or a couple of lures from our raffle. Hey I feel like I am working hard to

convince you to attend, “I am”, so please come and bring a friend. Have a beer, relax and have an

enjoyable evening. Gents, I will be present to help renew you membership, answer questions and

sign-up new members. I also have a nice selection of lures to give away to any new comers and peo-

ple renewing. Hope to see you at the September 13th club meeting,

Zack Mega fishes almost every weekend and has caught a 38" tiger musky. Ryan DeBoer applied 2 years in a row and is thrilled to be picked this year, especially since he will be fishing with his dad.
