Fruit Delight

Ingredients-between two

• 400g cooking apple or rhubarb (you can also add a few brambles or raspberries to give a nice pink colour)

• 50g sugar• 200 mls of tinned custard

• 15g melted butter• 4 x 15mls spoons rolled oats• 2 x 10mls spoons Demerara sugar

Aims of the lesson

• We shall learn how to use the microwave safely.

• We shall learn how to prepare an apple safely.

• We shall learn how to make a healthy dessert using fruit.

Step 1

• Wash, peel and then core the cooking apple.

Method – Step 2

• Cut the apple into 1cm pieces and place in a bowl with the berries, 50g sugar and 1 x 15ml spoon of water.

• Place in the microwave on High for 4 minutes.

Method – Step 3

• Using a fork or wooden spoon mash the stewed fruit until it is smooth.

• Add sugar to taste. Set aside to cool.

Method – Step 4

• Place the butter, oats and sugar in a bowl in the microwave for 1 minute.

• Mix well to combine ingredients.

Method – Step 5

• Layer the glass with the custard and stewed fruit alternately as the teacher shows you.

Method – Step 6

• Place the oat mixture on top of the final layer of apple or rhubarb.

• Chill until ready to serve.
