Just a reminder...
Just a reminder for parent drop
off procedures. Students are
dropped off from the car line
loop. Please stay in your car. We
do not have a cross walk person
so it is safer for everyone to use
the car loop. Please be patient in
the loop. Frontier Safety Patrol
students will open the doors for
your child. Please have them
ready to get out when you pull
up to the cone. Please pull all
the way forward to the cones
before having students exit your
car. Also please be patient with
the cars in front of you. Please
don’t go around just wait and
the line will begin moving very
quickly.

Pre-K News "4" You!
Trees, Reindeer, and Gingerbread Men will begin to arrive on a daily basis in Pre-K. We are excited
about getting ready for the Holiday Season. We will be concentrated on making "Choices" with
our Frog Street curriculum. We will use kind words, helping hands, and choose to be givers in-
stead of takers. Thoughtful choices are smart choices! Literacy will focus on oral language, pho-
nological awareness, alliteration, and vocabulary. Math lets us continue with patterns and be able
to explore geometry. We will also have time to use our measurement skills. Practice makes per-
fect when we are writing our names and working in our journals.
Pre-K challenges you to be Givers during this season rather than takers. Have a Happy Holiday!
Season’s Greetings from 1st Grade! This past month, we had so many things to give thanks for! To start, we are so grate-
ful for all of our friends/classmates that we celebrated each other with a Friendship Feast, at the end of November. This
was also a time to apply what we’d been learning in class, by living out a day in the life of the Pilgrims and Native Amer-
icans, during the First Thanksgiving.
Math has been flying by as we’ve covered everything from counting pennies, nickels and dimes along with telling time
to the hour and half hour! Next we have made the transition into Measurement, using feet, inches and our bodies to
learn forms of Nonstandard Liner Measurement. We will continue to practice using tools such as a ruler, measuring tape,
personal foot etc.
I bet you’ve heard about the sneaky e…well maybe not since he is actually silent J! In Language Arts we have started our
focus on learning and applying our long vowel sounds with the silent e, at the end of words. Next up will be vowel
teams/pairs.
As always we are continuing to follow and practice our school and classroom procedures and expectations. It’s possible
that someone might be making a list and checking it twice, to see who’s been naughty or nice! In the meantime, the 1st
Grade Teachers want to remind you all of how thankful we are to have your family as a part of our class this year. We
hope everyone had Happy Thanksgiving and wishing you all Happy Holiday’s!
With many thanks,
Mrs. McCarty, Miss Reed, Mr. Rigsby and Miss Vollbrecht

As we wrap up November, we are reminded how thankful we are that you let us be a part of your
child's life! It is amazing how much we have learned in just 4 months. November was full of fun
Thanksgiving activities, and we can't wait to start our winter units! We are looking forward to
learning about animals in winter and holidays around the world. We'll also continue to grow as
writers by sending letters to Santa. In math we'll be focusing on simple probability, skip counting,
comparing numbers, and so much more! Be on the lookout for information from homeroom
moms about our winter parties. To wrap up our semester of hard work, we'll be celebrating with a
Polar Express pajama day before winter break. Happy Holidays!
‘Tis the season to be amazing learners! That’s who we are in 2nd grade! In our last month of 2015,
here is what we have in store:
In Language Arts, we will be reading realistic fiction and animal fantasy stories, as well as engaging in
an Author’s Study of Jan Brett. Jan Brett is always a favorite author among students, and we will tie in
some of her stories to our holidays and winter season.
In Math, we will be studying a variety of addition and subtraction strategies, temperature changes, and
reviewing coins and total costs.
We will kick off the month with our Robot Project for Science – we can’t wait to see everyone’s crea-
tive inventions!
Social Studies will have us taking a closer look at world celebrations and holidays.
We will also be celebrating our readers with our first A.R. party – be on the lookout for more infor-
mation, and make sure to encourage your children to keep reading and taking AR tests!
As always, thank you for all your support! We hope you have a happy and safe holiday!
We had such a blast at the Explorer's Feast. We truly could not have pulled it off without
the help of our outstanding parents. Thank you for helping us make this an unforgettable
event for our students.
Thankfully, December seems to slow down in the events we have planned for our grade
level.
In reading we are wrapping up our study of biographies and researching the Wright
Brothers. In math we are moving onto adding and subtracting decimals. Before you know
it we will discover strategies on solving large multiplication problems. Knowing basic facts
is crucial for this process. Please continue practicing basic multiplication facts at home
with your child. We will be concluding our study over soil and weathering in Science.

3rd Grade Happy Holidays Third Grade Families!
We are beginning our novel study of Charlotte's Web! We will focus on identifying character traits
and cause/effect events. At the end of our novel study, we will watch the Charlotte's Web movie to
compare/contrast the book and the movie.
In math, we will use our estimation skills of rounding to the nearest multiple of 10 to determine solu-
tions to real world situations involving multiplication of whole numbers.
In Social Studies, we are learning about cattle drives and the Oklahoma land runs to prepare for our
reenactment of the 1889 Land Run in April.
We are also gearing up for the third grade musical, "Forty Winks," on December 17th.
This year, our winter party theme will be gingerbread houses! The kids will be decorating their own
little houses at our winter party on December, 18th at 11:00 a.m.
We hope that everyone has a fun and safe winter break!

Reading
Students are working hard on their first novel study “Blood on the River” and focusing on Au-
thor’s Purpose, Fact and Opinion, Expanded Vocabulary, Text-Based answering, sequencing,
etc. while helping with Social Studies curriculum and understanding. The new 9-weeks started
on October 20, we have set new AR goals. PLEASE remember our focus for AR this year is on
Percentage correct so please don’t only encourage your child to read to achieve their points,
also encourage them to read carefully to meet their 80% correct requirement.
Math
We are on to our unit 5 study of fractions. Your students are learning the foundational skills for
fractions that they will build upon in their upcoming years. Please make sure your student is
practicing their math facts ( ex. 2 x 5 = 10). If they are not able to recite the answer to you
within 10 seconds, then they are not fluent.
Science/Social Studies
*In Science we are working on our unit over Ecosystems and Food Chains. Thank you to PTO
for purchasing our Owl Pellets we will use during this unit!
*In Social Studies we are completing our study of the 13 Original Colonies. We will learn about
the 3 different colonial regions and then compare how they are alike and different. A huge
thank-you goes out to all parents who helped with our Colonial Day. It was such a memorable
We hope all families
have a wonderful holiday
season!
The cold weather is starting to settle on Oklahoma! Students, make sure
you get to the library to check out some great books! We have been add-
ing new titles to our shelves so take a look. Special thanks to those that
have donated for our Celebration Book Club. Part of the first shipment
has arrived and we could not be more excited! Looking ahead, our spring
book fair will be held during the last week of January. We will start seek-
ing volunteers soon! If you are interested in helping, please let us know!

This year we are excited to be partnering with a fun, free, and truly easy fundraiser called Shoparoo!
Schools nationwide are already earning hundreds and even thousands every year through Shoparoo and it’s
a great opportunity for us to really make a difference this year!
Shoparoo is school fundraising made easy: the free app turns pictures of your everyday shopping receipts
into cash donations and sweepstakes entries for our school! Yep, it’s that simple. No more cutting labels, selling door to door, or time-consuming coordinating. All you have to do is shop as you normally do, snap
pictures of your receipts with the app, and voila Just shop, snap, earn!
Get started today:
1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
2. Select our school from the list and start taking pictures of your receipts - shop anywhere, buy anything!
3. Earn even more Roo Points, or cash donations, by inviting others to join using your personal referral
code
4. You can even select a grade to support and have fun with grade competitions!
There’s no limit to how much money we can raise with Shoparoo - the more supporters, the more we will
raise for our school. Schools with just 40 supporters are earning an average of $1,000 every year. That’s
free, easy money that we could be fundraising too. Check out shoparoo.com to learn more about this awesome app!
