Unless otherwise stated, data in this digest for 1996 to 2003 is derived from that year's Educational Management Information System (EMIS). The EMIS is a relational database that stores data on teachers and schools including enrolments, buildings and facilities. Annual survey forms are disseminated to each school in February. Each principal is responsible to ensure accurate teacher and school data, as of the lSt of March, is recorded and that the survey is promptly returned to the Ministry of Education.

Notable Statistics in this Digest:

+ Total student enrolment slightly decreased by 56(1%) since 2002. + The total Rarotonga roll decreased by 22(0.8%) in the last 12 months. + The overall. decrease since 1996 is 17%. + There are more female students (53%) enrolled at the senior secondary level (SLI-F7). + There are 92(3 1 %) teachers aged 50 years or older.

1990-2002 ENROLMENTS BY LEVEL

Data for 1995 to 2002 is derived from the EMIS. Data from 1990 to 1994 is derived from the March Monthly School Returns.

Since 1996 there has been a 14% decrease in preschool rolls, a 24% decrease in primary rolls and a 8% decrease in secondary rolls. The overall decrease since 1996 is 17%.
