CFUW Victoria Judith Harreman Scholarship in Music
This scholarship was first awarded in 1986. It is given annually to an outstanding female student proceeding to year three or four in the Music program at University of Victoria. Preference is given to a student specializing in voice or piano. Judith Harreman was born in Medicine Hat in 1939. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a BA in Social Sciences. Judith was a member of CFUW clubs in Edmonton, Moose Jaw, and Victoria. She was a keen supporter of the Victoria Scholarship & Bursary Society.
Judith’s passion was music: she sang in choirs and played the piano, she also helped young people pursue their musical talents. Judith died in Victoria in 1985. Through the generosity of Judith’s many friends and family, Judith continues to support young musicians with the scholarship they established in her name. The 2012 recipient of the CFUW Victoria Judith Harreman Scholarship in Music is Yun-‐Chn (Jenny) Chang. CFUW Victoria Helen Joy Russell Bursary in Music or Jazz Studies
This bursary was first awarded in 2008. The purpose of this annual award is to provide financial assistance to an outstanding female music student entering into the second year of the Diploma in Music or Diploma in Jazz Studies at Camosun College. Joy Russell was a long time member of CFUW Victoria; she was also a generous benefactor of the Scholarship & Bursary Society. Of the four awards set up from Joy’s bequest, this award acknowledges her lifelong interests in music. Joy was an accomplished pianist who graduated from the Toronto
Conservatory. Joy’s teaching career took her to many cities around the globe. When she retired to Victoria she continued to take an interest in young people and their careers. The 2012 recipient of the CFUW Victoria Helen Joy Russell Bursary in Jazz Studies is Chance Lovett. . This evening’s concert has been arranged by Yun-Chn Chang and Chance Lovett. The Scholarship & Bursary Society thanks both performers for giving so generously of their time and talents in support of CFUW Victoria awards.
