Dissident republican group the Real IRA is the chie suspect or planting the under-car pipe bomb which  was discovered in the early hours o yesterday morning in the Shantallow area. The bomb was under a  vehicle that belonged to the police ofcer’s parents. Fuse was lit on bomb Nicholson slams ‘faceless’ critics ULSTER Unionist MEP Jim Ni- cholson last night dramatically claimed that the “gutless, ace- less” members o his party who orced Tom Elliott out as leader are now briefng against him. In a ferce deence o his own position, the party veteran  warned unnamed senior fgures  who he believes want him to be replaced as UUP candidate that he will “take them out”. Mr Nicholson told the News Letter that an unnamed senior UUP fgure who told a Sunday newspaper that “the current mood within the party [is] or change” should come out and identiy themselves and that i he does go down he will “go down fghting”. “I am not prepared to put up  with this. I’m not going to stand or it and these people can either stand up, put up or shut up,” he said. “I have stood or election ater election since 1975 and i they have the guts to stand there and put their name up against me, I’ll take them on and I’ll take them out. It’s as simple as that.” Meanwhile, party leader Mike Nesbitt has appointed ormer leader Lord Empey as party chairman ater initially oering the post to Enniskillen solicitor James Cooper – who was party chairman under Lord Trimble. Mr Cooper told the BBC that he had turned down the oer be- cause he is too busy.
