Ascension falls on the fortieth day after the Resurrection. On this day, Jesus appeared to His Disciples and gave

them His last commandment - to preach the Kingdom of God and the repentance and forgiveness of sins in His name to all nations, beginning with Jerusalem. Then He led them out of Jerusalem toward Bethany to the Mount of Olives. He lifted up His hands and blessed them. As His Disciples were look-ing on, He was lifted up - or "ascended" - and a cloud took Him out of sight. While they were looking up, two angels in white robes appeared and said to them: "Why are you men from Galilee standing here looking into the sky? Jesus, Who has been taken up from you into heaven, this same Jesus will come back in the same was as you have seen Him go there."

The Ascension is, therefore, a sign and symbol of the Second Coming. Christ will return to the earth in the same manner as He left it. When the risen Lord returns again in glory, God's will for mankind will be fulfilled.Ascension is also a sign of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

The Symbol of Faith - the Nicene Creed - which summarizes the important doctrines and teachings of the Church, contains these words: "And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father." The importance and meaning of this feast is that Jesus glorified our fallen and sinful humanity when He returned to the Father. When Christ became man, He took up human nature and we share our human nature with Him. It is through Christ, Who is perfect God and perfect man, which we "partake of divine nature." Christ honors us by putting us close to the Father.

We celebrate the Ascension with the same great joy the Apos-tles had when they were promised that the Holy Spirit would come to bear witness to the presence of Christ in the Church. Ascension day is joyful, not only because Christ is glorified, but also because we are glorified with Him. We are joyful be-cause He goes to "prepare a place" for us and because He is forever present before the Father to intercede for us.

In the Old Testament Pentecost was the feast which occurred

fifty days after Passover. As the passover feast celebrated the exodus of the Israelites from the slavery of Egypt, so Pentecost celebrated God's gift of the ten commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai.In the new covenant of the Messiah, the passover event takes on its new meaning as the celebration of Christ's death and resurrection, the "exodus" of humanity from this sin-ful world to the Kingdom of God. And in the New Testament as well, the pentecostal feast is fulfilled and made new by the com-ing of the "new law", the descent of the Holy Spirit upon (Acts 2:1-4). This moment has traditionally been called the birthday of the Church.

In the liturgical services of the feast of Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit is celebrated together with the full revelation of the divine Trinity: Father and Son and Holy Spirit. The fulness of the Godhead is manifested with the Spirit's coming to humanity. Pentecost is called an apocalyptic day, which means the day of final revelation. It is the celebration of what must happen and does happen to us in the Church today. We all have died and risen with the Messiah-King, andwe all have received His Most Holy Spirit. We are the "temples of the Holy Spirit". God's Spirit dwells in us. We, by our own membership in the Church, have received "the seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit" in the sacra-ment of chrismation. Pentecost has happened to us."Thus says the Lord: Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I your God am holy"

It has been a wonderful journey from the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ to the Ascension and Pentecost Festival to follow in this month. Have we gone back to the groove after such awakening? It’s very common, to allow lethargic approach take over us when we scale newer heights. Our forefathers have been upright and zealous in their faith aspects. Let’s through this revival stay upright and be firm in our faith. Let the intercession of Saint George be with us.

I would like to congratulate the Treasurer, Secretary and Man-aging Committee members for the year 2018-19. Let almighty God instill blessings and service oriented approach towards the parish members. Let me also pen on record a word of appre-ciation to the Treasurer, Secretary and Managing Committee members for the year 2017-18 for the services rendered.
