THIS WEEK’S NEWSLETTER IS

Dotty Gross on the Yahrzeit of her father-in-law, Yehudah Arye ben Yitzhok HaLevi, A’H;

Caroline & Rabbi Dr. Martin Schloss on the Yahrzeit of his mother, Mashe Leba bas Yitzchok HaLevi, A’H.

From The Rabbi’s Desk Rabbi Yisroel Edelman

Yaakov is hoping for the best but preparing for the worse. With great trepidation he prepares for his reunion with Esav. The Parsha describes the detailed elaborate plans Yaakov arranges. What was his frame of mind?

The Torah says מאדויירא יעקב – “ Yaakov was very frightened” We can understand Yaakov’s trepidation

but why “very ” מאד frighten? The Torah gives one reason Yaakov was worried. He used up his credits when

he survived and prospered in the house of Lavan and maybe his “account” was depleted. Targum Yonasan ben Uziel explains that this refers to the one and only Mitzva that Esav had outperformed Yaakov – honoring

his father כיבוד אב which caused him angst. This idea is supported by an interesting gematria. The word

= כיבוד אב!. 45מאד = From this we can realize a profound lesson when we encounter individuals whose

Mitzvos observance may be nominal at this time. If a person observes one Mitzva – even if it is only one, but it is done with exactitude and precision it can change the tide of history. May it be fulfilled in all of us “One Mitzva leads to another Mitzva” which will be come to fruition with the coming of Moshiach speedily!

Current YIDB Policies Regarding COVID

We continue to monitor the ever-changing COVID situation and remain in contact with both medical and Rabbinic authorities as to the proper steps to take to protect our membership. We are returning to pre COVID seating arrangements in the main sanctuary. For those who wish to continue social distancing, in the men’s section, we have designated the first two rows against the far right wall and the row immediately next to the mechitza as social distancing rows. In the women’s section, the social distancing rows are the first two rows next to the mechitza and the row on the far left of the sanctuary. As always, all seating in our Shul is on a first come, first served basis.

1) All Shul members who have not been vaccinated are strongly urged to wear a mask in Shul, if not for your own protection, then in consideration of other Shul attendees. Masks will be provided if you do not have one with you. 2) All guests who are not vaccinated must pre-register to attend minyanim. Contact Steven Schoenfeld by either e-mail at [email protected], or by phone at 917 741 0299 at least 48 hours before attendance, to permit us to review Shul COVID policy with them to minimize any possible misunderstanding. 3) Children, under the age of 10 are not permitted in Shul at this time.

We welcome every person to our Shul. However, these are uncertain times and require us to take unusual precautions based on professional guidance. We thank you, as always, for your continued support and cooperation.

To sponsor a Kiddush or Tikun, please contact

Howard Block (973) 953-9937 and/or the shul office.
