“News For Growing and Serving Jesus”
From the Pastor. . .
Happy New Year…and welcome to 2019! Another glorious year lies before us to minister in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Why is Hollins Road Baptist Church here? To share the love of Jesus with everyone we can and help them Connect with Him…Grow in Him…and Serve for Him! Church family, this is our mission and purpose for being here! As wonderful as “church” is and our “fellowship” is…it is not about us…it’s about them, oth-ers! Over the past several years, we have been witnessing a cultural shift in our country…people (even many church members) are not coming to church like they used to come. And people, especially the younger generation, are getting harder to reach! So what are we going to do to reach them? It really comes down to us talking to our family members, friends, people we work with, people we recreate with and our neighbors about the Lord! And invit-ing them to come to church!
As you know we are working hard to put up a digital sign to reach our community: 1) To let them know what is going on at Hollins Road Baptist with the invitation to come and 2) To share the Word of God (by putting up Bible verses). Of course, we must never forget that we are supposed to be DIGITAL SIGNS TOO…as we work…recreate…and go!
So my challenge to you: will you dedicate yourself to be a great DIGITAL SIGN for the Lord in 2019? Someone may just become LIT UP (come to Christ) because you do!
Happy New Year…as we let our light shine…Connecting with God…Growing in God…and Serving for God!
Pastor Mark

We decided at the December meeting we would not meet
again until March 5 due to the cold weather.
We already have a program planned, so please plan to “Bring
a Bag lunch” for that day. We will decide as a group what will
be our dues for the year since we do have money left in the
treasury.
Thank you again to Mable Hudgins for her generous contri-
bution towards the Christmas meal.
If you need to reach me, please email me at [email protected]

Remember, this is NOT my meeting, it is OUR meeting.
Hope to see you all there. Prayerfully, Tonya

Ministry Grid Training
We have a wonderful opportunity coming to us in January, everyone
from our church ministry volunteers to our church staff. We have sub-
scribed to Ministry Grid, an online training plan that is customizable to
fit every need for training in the areas of ministry that we are called to
serve in. From parking lot attendants and greeters to Sunday School
teachers, Deacons, and staff, we will be able to offer training to all of our
folks to serve and minister to others. We can even design personal train-
ing opportunities for individuals to go through, at their own pace, to
help them grow.
In Ephesians 4:11-13, Paul states that the role of church leaders is
“equipping the saints for the work of ministry.” The result, he says, is
unity and maturity. Training, then, is essential to both the design and
health of the Church. This is what we hope to accomplish during 2019 in
our church, people who are equipped for the ministry of the church and
who will Connect, Grow, and Serve.
We will be having a Ministry Grid introduction on Sunday, January 27 at 6:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for you to learn more about Ministry Grid and how God can use this to better equip each and every one of us to better serve Him. Please mark this date on your calendar and make plans to be a part of what God is and will be doing through His people here at Hollins Road Baptist Church.

Our 2019 Winter season gets underway on Tuesday, January 8TH. The HRBC team won the 2018 Fall league champion-ship. Congratulations team! If you would like to play on our team, please let Janet Washington know as soon as possible.
Church Family,
Once again, thank you just doesn’t seem to be adequate enough for all the love and support that you have shown to our Food Pantry Ministry this year. Your many food donations and monetary support and the encouragement, love, and prayers are very much appreciated. I want to personally thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all that you do for our food pantry and for our community. If it were not for your support we would not be able to serve the multitude of people that we do . Again, thank you so very much!
In Christ, Debbie Young
Fellowship Team
The Fellowship Team would like to thank those who partici-pated in our first ever Cookie Exchange on November 29! It was a sweet evening of fellowship. Dozens of cookies were donated to the Rescue Mission as well as bags of sugar, brown sugar and spices. The Rescue Mission was very grateful! We look forward to hosting this event again next year.
Deacons Fundraiser
Sunday, February 3
Our largest fundraiser of the year is coming up in February
on Super Bowl Sunday.
We will be having a Soup-A-
Thon again and we appreciate everyone’s support. - by donations
Food Pantry Report
This past year (2018) was a busy year for our Food Pantry Ministry. We provided food for 211 families, feeding over 680 people throughout the year. We also fixed 75 Thanksgiving food boxes, feeding 246 people and 76 Christmas food boxes to feed 278. We certainly want to thank Debbie Young for the great job she does heading up this ministry and we thank eve-ryone who has supported the Food Pantry Ministry through-out the year.

Kroger Charitable Donation Program
Please note: You have to re-register your Kroger Plus Card each year! So if you have not already done so, please do!
If you shop at Kroger and have a Kroger Plus Card (you can get one for free) and have not already registered (or re-registered) your card’s number in Kroger’s charity donation program, please do so now. This benefits your church in a great way! Our Church is registered with Kroger and our special number (Community Reward code) is 83689.
You can register or re-register in 2 ways:
Go to the Kroger website. Choose “Community Rewards.” Follow the instructions there to set up or use your log-in information to get into your account. Use the spe-cial code 83689 for Hollins Road Baptist Church.
Call 1-800-576-4377. Select the prompt for “Community Rewards.” You can then speak with someone and ask them to register or re-register your Kroger Plus Card to your church Hollins Road Baptist (83689).
How this works. Every time you use your Kroger Plus Card (for groceries, gas, pharmacy, purchasing gift cards, etc.) a $ per-centage is registered to Hollins Road Baptist Church. And then each quarter, they send a donation check to Hollins Road Bap-tist added up from all our members who’ve registered! This is a great way you can help our Nicaragua mission efforts. The money generated from this helps to pay at least one of our staff member’s way to Nicaragua. If you have any questions, contact the church office.
Online Giving
Now Available at
www.hrbc1.com
Have you considered giving this way each month? This is a great way to schedule your giving each month (or week)! It’s also a great way to give when you are not here!
You can set up a personal account which you can monitor. And you can give through your bank account (an ACH transfer) or a credit card. Or you can give as a “guest” without setting up a personal account. For more questions, contact Pastor Mark or our Church Secretary.
CIA (Congregations In Action)
We provide food to needy children each week at Monterey Elementary School. You can help us by providing snacks such as peanut butter crackers, individual macaroni and cheese, Ramen noodles, pudding cups, etc.
Digital Sign
10mm Pixel Pitch
(best quality)
3’ 2” x 7’ 4”
Want to reach our community for Jesus? We are seeking to
put up a Digital Sign to reach it! This is about missions and
reaching people! Do you want to grow? Do you want to
reach new people? The Lord can use a digital sign (this
evangelistic tool) to do so! Think about the ability to share
messages with our community about events we are hav-
ing…Community Block Party, special events like Live Na-
tivity, Hanging of the Greens Service, Trunk-or-Treat etc…
AWANA’s and Children’s events, Youth Events and other
special worship services…and inviting them to come! Think
about the ability to put up Bible passages that can speak to
people’s hearts! A digital sign isn’t “the end all” but it is a
great tool to use to reach our community!
As our Sign Team has researched digital signs and talked to
other churches, we have heard the following stories. “Half
the people we have reached over the past 2 years have
come to our church as a direct result of our sign.” From
several members who were not in favor of their church put-
ting up a sign but once they did: “Why did we wait so long
to do so?” From our Sign Team’s research, they have found
churches who have taken this step have seen them make a
difference.
To date we have now raised over $20,000. We need around
$10,000 more to finally accomplish this. Could you make a
generous gift to this important cause? It will make a differ-
ence for the Kingdom of God! You can use a blue envelope
and mark “Sign.”
We are close to finalizing a deal with a local company, and
the sooner we can raise the other $10,000, the sooner the
sign can be installed. For those who have already given,
thank you!

Bibles Read in 2018 and 2019 Reading Challenge
If you read your Bible through in 2018 (all the way, just the OT or just the NT), let the church office know. We will recog-nize everyone who did in our morning service, January 13. Also, take the challenge to read your Bible through in 2019. We have Bible reading guides at the Welcome Center and downstairs table. You can always find a good plan by Googling as well!
Sunday School Class/Small Group Highlight
We will be highlighting a Sunday School class or a Small Group Bible study group in our newsletter. We want to high-light the Guiding Lights class with this edition. The Guiding Lights class meets in the open area of our L. C. Hall Chapel every Sunday morning at 9:00; they begin their time together with some good, old fashion gospel music sing-ing. After that, their teachers, Joyce Blankenship and Red Johnson do a great job teaching the word of God. The Guid-ing Lights class is an adult class that welcomes people of all ages. They are some of the most loving and caring people who are always doing for others. We thank God for each and every one of the Guiding Light’s members. If you are looking for a Sunday School class to join, please visit the Guiding Lights.
