FROM THE PROGRAMOFFICE

Are you ready for the "Fourth of July?" Weare! The only thing is, we are celebrating the 4th onthe 5th! Due to the holiday falling on a Sunday, wewill have our celebration on Monday.

We have planned a Parade, a Boat Parade, aBar-b-Que lunch, and afternoon Bingo. I alsounderstand there will be various card gamesplaying. The object for the day is to stay in out ofthe heat. The only exception to this will be theswimming pool. There will be games, etc. plannedfor anybody who wants to have a good time. Thepool will be open all day for children and we arehoping everyone will join in and help us make it agreat day.

The Other States Club is scheduled for adinner on Monday the 12th.

. Free Spirits Sing-a-long and dinner isscheduled for the fourth Tuesday (27th

).

July and August look to be quiet. But - westill have plenty going on and the majority of it isinside - out of the heat! Read your calendars and

weekly bulletins to check our activities down at theClubhouse and on our sports fields.

It is very "hot" outdoors but you can stay"cool" inside and be with your friends andneighbors at the Clubhouse.

A WELL DESERVEDRETIREMENT

Brady Livingston, one of our groundsspecialists, has retired. Brady was an employee ofHawthorne since November 3, 1972. He wasemployed the longest of any employee atHawthorne and certainly was looking forward to hisretirement.

His fellow employees got together onFriday, June 11th for a "Goodbye" party in

• his honor.Brady and his wife, Harriett, reside

in Okahumpka.You could always find Brady

working around the Clubhouse orreplacing someone's mailbox or trash

can. He took pride in his work andthat showed, because the grounds

around the Clubhouse were always neat and clean.We will certainly miss Brady and wish him well.

Oh, I forgot to mention - he loves to fish soguess what he will be doing a lot oft

• The time will be 11 AM to 2 PM in theClubhouse. Make sure you mark your calendarsfor this day. All activities will be pre-empted in theClubhouse until 4 PM.

This is a great way for our Newcomers tobecome acquainted with the area businesses andservices they offer. Also, it's a great time to lookover your home and see what needs a-fixin!

Invited to attend this year's Fair areplumbers, appliance repair, aluminum and awnings,electricians, bathroom remodeling, interiordecorators, carpet installers and carpet cleaners,drapes and verticals, hardware centers, etc.

We will again offer lunch to those who wishto buy. And, how can you go wrong?

The Home Improvement Fair is one of ourmost successful events held in the Clubhouse, andeach time it seems to get bigger and bigger. If youhave had someone do work at your home and wishthem to be invited, let Sandy know in the ProgramOffice. It just might be that they aren't on the listand probably should be.

MAINTENANCE WEEK

Held every year, the third week of August isset aside to strip and re-wax the floors in theClubhouse.

From Sunday, August 15th to Monday,August 23rd

, the auditorium, lemon, lime, palm,craft, gallery and hospitality rooms will be closed toour residents. The Library and Billiard rooms willbe open.

Please make sure you mark your calendarsso you don't schedule 'anything for the Clubhouse.This does not affect the swimming pool area.

Just so there is no misunderstanding - TheAuction Heirs do household sales, not housesales. So, if you are putting your house up for saleand need help with having a sale ofthe contentsthen you can call one of the Auction Heirs. CallWillie Lee, Doreen Francis, Barbara Frank, ElaineHoffner, Diane Zatarski or Betty Bell. They do agreat job and not only do they help you, they arehelping Club Hawthorne.

VEGETARIAN CLUB

Over 130 Hawthorne residents, plus guests,participated in one ofthe newest activities this year,"The Vegetarian Club".

The interest was very gratifying!Anyone interested in learning more about

vegetarianism during your leisure summer hours,may contact the Club Secretary, Edith Johnson, at323-8100 (102 Camillia Trail). She has a small

collection of magazines, books, and videosbelonging to the Club that you may borrow. Copiesofthe Vegetarian Times may also be found in theHawthorne Library.

The Vegetarian Club will resume theirdinners and meeting in the Fall. Have a pleasantand healthy summer.

CONSTRUCTION HASSTARTED

The "Space Program" has finally taken offlGround has been broken. The freestandingstructure will include a Fitness Center, a Fine ArtsRoom, a Library, and a storage facility.

Beginning Tuesday, June 1st, the wallbetween the shuffieboard courts and gallery had tobe taken down. Then it was "GO" from there .

Everyone is eager for the addition to bedone. The Planning Committee worked hard on thisproject before a vote was taken; and I might add, itwas a very favorable vote.

You know how you never have enoughRoome? Well already we have plans for every inchofthe new storage space.
