Telephone Number Change
Our phone number is changing! Our campus is
receiving an upgrade of all
telecommunications. This is happening between
25th August and 4th September. We are hopeful
that there will be minimal disruption. We have a
new phone number, so please save it in your
contacts. The new number is 9233 5800. This
phone number is for both Joondalup Education
Support Centre and Joondalup Primary School.
There will be a period of time where our “old”
and “new” phone
number will both
work. We will
send out
numerous
reminders in the
coming weeks
about the change.

2 Please encourage your children to care for our environment. Children who turn off
dripping taps, repair broken objects rather than throwing them away and use things
more than once, are showing how important it is to respect our environment.

Joondalup Learning Community’s Cross Country Cup Wednesday the 16th August saw Joondalup Primary School participate in the Joondalup Learning
Community’s Cross Country Cup, where students from year 3 – year 6 raced against Springfield
Primary School, Edgewater Primary School, Currumbine Primary School and Heathridge Primary
School, emerging 4th overall.
Well done to all the students who were selected and represented Joondalup Primary School on the
day. If there was an award for effort, Joondalup Primary School would have easily finished first
place.
Congratulations to the year three boys and girls who finished 1st overall as a team, for their year
group. You have proven yourself to be an extremely committed and athletic group of role model
students.
Congratulations to our place winners on the day Mason 1st, Kayden 2nd, John 3rd, Kiya 3rd and Liam
4th.
It was remarkable the way students worked together to encourage one another across the finish
line. During their race, students worked as a team and often Joondalup Primary School was the
most vocal in showing support for their fellow students, creating an incredibly positive
atmosphere.
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who came and supported the students. Your
contribution of time towards cheering on Joondalup Primary School greatly adds to the feel of the
community. We would like to highlight Rebecca Carstairs for her wonderful volunteer work on the
day as well as Mr Hahn for organizing the students in the bay.
Leading up the the event, students trained three times a week with fitness expert, Sue Egan. Sue
was instrumental in the coordination of the student’s preparation and completed much of the
behind the scenes work. A very big thank you to you Sue from Mr Lee and all the students
involved.
If you would like to compete in more cross country events, please contact the Joondalup Little
Athletics Centre on 0424 068 141, via e-mail [email protected] or by visiting their website at

What’s Been Happening The Andy Griffiths Kids’ Writing Competition
CALLING ALL KIDS!
Each year Dymocks and Pan Macmillan invite Australian kids to get
creative and enter a writing competition that’s judged by the one and only
Andy Griffiths.
To celebrate the release of The 91-Storey Treehouse, Dymocks and Pan
Macmillan are calling all Andy fans to knock their socks off with their
imaginative short stories. Stories must be between 200-400 words and the
competition closes on 2 October 2017.
As part of the Intensive English programme, the Year 5 and Year 6 students have been busy
illustrating, planning and writing their own short stories for the competition. The students started
their planning by illustrating their own treehouse and from here, their imaginations blossomed
and their short stories have grown.
The one major prize winner will receive their story framed with illustrations by Terry Denton. The
top 5 entries (including the winner) will each WIN* an Andy Griffiths book pack containing 14
books each supplied by Pan Macmillan.
Further information can be found at:

Science Enrichment Program, Term 3 2017
Joondalup Primary School offers a science program that aims to inspire young people to
be science leaders.
The program is designed to cultivate and pass on a sense of wonderment and
scientific curiosity by engaging students in a variety of hand-on investigations that
explore all the fields of science as taught in the Australian Curriculum.
Students are selected by their classroom teachers to participate in a six week
Science Enrichment Program after school. The selected students embark on a
scientific journey through the solar system, explore the chemical structure of ice-
cream and bubble gum and finally take a microscopic look at plant and animal cells.
To further enhance and extend the Science Enrichment Program, students are invited
to attend an excursion to Belridge Secondary College Science Laboratory.
Congratulations to the following Year Four students who were selected to participate
in the program for Term Three 2017; Jude, Holly, Isabel, Cameron, Irish, Charlotte,
Adeena and Kayne.
A special mention needs to be given to James from Year Six, who completed the
program in Term One and has volunteered to be a science assistant this term. His
passion and interest in science are a welcome addition to the program and James is
taking another step towards becoming a science leader of the future!

Settling in!
Yesterday afternoon I was able to help at our Moorditj T-shirt
painting session after school which was enjoyed by everyone.
Well attended by students, parents and staff, it was an artistic
adventure and a lot of fun! Students and parents painted beautiful
bright colours onto their T-shirts and showed great artistry! I am
sure you will hear more about it from Bev-so stay tuned.
I have just started to spend time playing games with some of our
ESC students during recess and lunch once a week, to assist
social interactions during play. More beautiful and enjoyable
moments and I look forward to working with ESC students later in
the term with a BUZ Social Skills program I will facilitate.
From next week you will find me in the library on Thursday
mornings helping out with JPS reading program. I visited this
week - what an amazing school!
Stay tuned…
