Our new building is getting very close to completion!

In the first week Mr Watts, Mr Swile and I had a fabulous firsttour of our new building to check out what the new learningspaces will look like! Below is a photo of the view from theoutdoor learning space which looks back over the school.

New approach to BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) in2020

Over the last few years the school has tried a number ofdifferent approaches to integrating technology into the learning. Most students have a phone or access to a laptop or computerand can access social media and the Internet as they want orneed to. We are currently redeveloping our BYOD approachand will be communicating in more detail soon. For somefamilies and staff, BYOD hasn’t been successful. Some parentshave talked to me about their frustration with the school inrelation to sending their child to school with a laptop and it notbeing used in classes. There seems to be a lack of consistencybetween staff expectations and usage or need in some classesother than LearnIT. In 2020, our focus will be on encouragingevery Year 7 to bring a laptop. We will develop a number ofoptions for our families. Watch this space!

Kind regards,

Fiona Free

VISUAL ART EXCURSIONThis term, our senior Visual Art and VisualArts in Practice students were fortunateenough to travel to Brisbane to visit theQueensland Art Gallery and Gallery ofModern Art (QAGOMA) at the QueenslandCultural Centre. Our budding artists andinquisitive individuals experiencedexhibitions by Australian artists, Ben Quilty

and Margaret Olley, and selected artworks from the Nationaland rotating collections.

The artworks on display challenged our perception on worldissues, making us consider new possibilities, gasp in awe, orsimply perplex and bewilder us. Some of our crowd favouritesincluded a digital rainforest room with a hidden door you had tocrawl through, a spinning scarecrow attached to a power drill, and a giant bronze elephant – turned on its head.

The day’s exploration and reflections will form an important partof assessment for our senior Art students, and challenge themto push their creativity and problem solving skills to new levels.
