Welcome to Week 10
Explicit Improvement Agenda: What is it?
Clear and detailed school-wide targets for improvement are
set, with all of our staff given the opportunity to input into
the decision making as part of the EIA process. These
targets are then communicated to the whole school
community along with the accompanying timelines. This
agenda is set over four years and is based on feedback from
student data and information from our school review. Our
2020 targets are:
Attendance – 95% Behaviour – 60% on Silver/Gold
Learning – 70% on A/B for writing
Term 3, Week 10 Class Round Up
The focus for week 10 was ‘Being a Peacemaker’. Classes
discussed how behaviour reward activities and recognition
encourage students to be Peacemakers. Even after some
initial issues we got to hear from the Prep students
Congratulations to Stirling for moving to Silver Level of
Behaviour and to Harvey and Tim for continuing to
demonstrate Gold Level Behaviours.
At the end of week 10 we have 60% of our Year 3-10
students on Silver or Gold behaviour level.
‘Sneak Peek @ Prep’
2021 Prep students, parents and carers are invited to a peek
at Prep on Wednesday, 21st October 4.45pm until 5.45pm.
At this session we will discuss some of the things that you
can expect in regards to being in Prep in 2021 including a
look around.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Celebrating students on Gold Behaviour Level
Isla, Charley, Georgia, Hayden, Amber, Sophia R, Charlie
T, Savannah, Angus, Josie, Bonnie, Emalee, Lucy G,
Charlote, Melissa, Jessica, Mac, Amy, Abby P and
Ivy joined Mrs Barling and Mrs Bartz for morning tea in the
last week of Term 4. Thanks to the 9/10 Hospitality class
for assisting by making some yummy morning tea treats.
Well done to the students who have achieved and
maintained Gold Behaviour Level this year. We as a school
community, are very proud of you all.
Killarney Class COVID Contest
WOW! What a great day we had on Wednesday 16th
September. Chauvel were the victorious team, however the
real winners were all of the students who tried their best and
had a go. It was definitely a day of sportsmanship,
collaboration and working together … all of the our school
values in bucket loads
The theme for 2020 is ‘Take Time – for mental health’.
When we take time to look after our mental health we are
able to improve our resilience and better cope with the
everyday stresses of life.
Early end to the 2020 school year
No doubt you have seen in the news recently that this term
will now end on Wednesday, 9th December. This ‘early
mark’ is in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of
schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. The last 2 days of
the term – 10th and 11th December, the school will be closed
to all staff and students.
Don’t hesitate …
Please do not hesitate to phone the school if there is ever a
time that you have any concerns or you would like to
celebrate what’s been happening. We may not be available
when you phone, but we will get back to you as soon as we
can.
Thanks Mrs Bartz
Attendance Recognition
Aligned with our Explicit Improvement Agenda, and given
that attendance at school is an expectation, classes will be
recognised each week for reaching the 95% attendance
target.
Well done to the 1/2J and Year 5/6 class teams for reaching
the 95% target for week 10, Term 3.
Drum roll ……… Congratulations to the 5/6 class team for
being the random draw winners for Term 3. The members
of this team have won a special treat organised by Mrs
Bartz. The 4/5 and 1/2M teams also received consolation
prizes.
While we are celebrating attendance, it is still very
important for anyone who is sick to stay home for their own
and everyone else’s health and wellbeing.
If students become sick at school, parents/carers will be
contacted to collect them.

Book Week 2020- Curious Creatures, Wild Minds
Book Week 2020 is just around the corner in week 3 and we
are getting excited. The theme this year is ‘Curious
Creatures, Wild Minds.’ Our school will engage in activities
around this theme from October 19-23. Books can create
excitement through sharing ideas, growing our thoughts,
encouraging us to relax with others as we listen and letting
us imagine things we may have never encountered before.
Let’s put wild minds to work coming up with simple
costumes for Book Week dress up day, use it to enter the
competitions and challenges throughout the week, and even
engage it to select a few different books to read during the
week. We are on the lookout for some curious creatures in
our school grounds. Will we find any? Book Week 2020-
Not long now😊

Junior Secondary
Year 10 Cooby Dam Camp
More information will be distributed this week in regards to
costs etc. for this camp. I know the students are excited,
particularly during this week when they should have been
enjoying Canberra.
Year 9 Emu Gully Camp
Our Year 9’s head to Emu Gully with Allora P-10 State
School in week 6 to participate in the ANZAC
Adventure Leadership Program.
The philosophy at Emu Gully is that your success in life,
whether personally or corporately, will be based primarily
on your character. That is; “The real you” and the way you
handle the circumstances of life, whether they be good or
bad.
The development of one’s character is measured in the way
we handle pressure and difficult circumstances. At Emu
Gully, they focus on the core character values displayed by
the ANZACS in times of tremendous hardship on the world
stage. The character values taught, promoted and reflected
upon at Emu Gully include Courage, Mateship,
Perseverance and Sacrifice.
The majority of the activities at Emu Gully are framed to
provide a simple historical context of epic ANZAC events
such as The Western Front, the Siege of Tobruk, The
Tunnel
Rats of Vietnam, The Bridge over the River Kwai and the
Kokoda Track. Each activity confronts participants with the
choice to demonstrate and reflect on the character values
needed to succeed in the activity, and more importantly in
life.
It should be noted, that war is not promoted at Emu Gully.
However, one cannot ignore the impact that war has had on
the development of our nation. It has been stated that
“nothing has shaped our culture more than war”.
Banjo Patterson put it this way;
“The mettle that a race can show,
Is proved with shot and steel,
And now we know what nations know,
And feel what nations feel”.
In recent times, there has been a significant resurgence and
interest in the ANZAC legend as demonstrated through
swelling crowds at ANZAC day services, parades and
national events both here and abroad. Through providing a
“hands on” history lesson, Emu Gully fully utilises the
ANZAC theme to impact the next generation with the facts
of the past to ensure the success of the future.
We look forward to seeing our Year 9’s challenged and as a
result emerging from the experience with a better view of
themselves, their comrades and their world.
