Our Literacy team has been working very hard on this to ensure that it is a beneficial day for staff and their students. Teachers will be involved in a range of learning situations, given practical strategies and examples, discover how to optimise existing and new resources and look at their reading programs to incorporate this new learning. SCHOOL ATHLETICS SPORTS I have included the approximate timeline again this week. I encourage parents to come and support their children and to enjoy this busy but exciting day. I would like to remind parents that students can order sausages for lunch and that ice cups in house colours will be sold throughout the day for $0.50 cents. CHIEF MINISTER’S VISIT - TERRITORY DAY This morning the Chief Minister, Mr Adam Giles, visited our school to meet with some of our students and to personally deliver promotional merchandise to promote Territory Day Celebrations. Mr Giles visited Year 6 Bishop, Year 4 Hardy and Year 1 Collins. Day. The backpacks are designed to raise awareness

and provide a focus for students to understand this part

of the Territory’s history.

VALUES ASSEMBLY

Our Values Assembly will be held this Friday at 9.15. Students have been working hard all semester to earn one of these awards. Three students from each class will receive an award for demonstrating one of our school values. The awards are given for; Excellence in learning, Care and Compassion, Integrity, Responsibility, Respect and Collaborative Learning. All parents and caregivers are invited to join us for this special assembly.

CROSS COUNTRY Parap Primary School students have been participating in the Darwin Cluster Cross Country Competition. These happy students are proudly displaying their trophy for coming 3rd overall in the competition. The students participated in weekly cross country running events around Darwin on Wednesday afternoons. Well done and congratulations to the Parap Team. Students pictured are: Dylan Gregg, Olivia Browne, Diarmid Browne, Ben Lambert, Jackson Lind, Tess Sallows and Kayla Collins.

FUNDRAISING-

Walkathon in week 3 of term 3- Friday 8th August. The Transition to Year 2 students will be walking laps around the school while the Year 3- 6 students will be walking to Lake Alexander. The round trip is 5 kilometres. Students will be given sponsorship sheets today in order for them to begin collecting sponsors over the term break. School Bush Dance will be held in week 6 of Term 3 – Wednesday 27th August. All classes have begun learning dances for this wonderful family evening. We do have some School Council members who have offered their support but we are still looking for a parent volunteer who would be able to able to help coordinate this event. Please let Rebecca at the front office know if you would be able to assist in this.

FIRST SEMESTER REPORTS Students will be receiving their report cards this afternoon. Please read them with your children and celebrate their successes. If you have any questions regarding the reports please contact the classroom teacher directly. SEMESTER BREAK I would like to take this opportunity to wish all students and their parents a safe and enjoyable holiday break.
