Matt Whittle (Darcy's dad), Trish McGrath (Seb's mum), Ty Barnett (Taipan's dad), Mr Bainbridge, Wendy and Dan Curran for their time and enormous effort with hardly a break. For our staff who helped out - I'd like to place a special mention as this significantly disrupted their work for the greater benefit of the school. Some of the resources are already in use in the Library, some are in Block A corridor and most are stored in Block A spare rooms. It will take at least all of Term 4 to gradually upgrade across the school. The benefits are enormous and will provide staff, students and volunteers with much appreciated improvements and will also save the school a significant amount of money over the next few years by not having to purchase furniture and stationery as well as equipment. 50 th CELEBRATIONS: During the course of term 4 students will contribute their ideas to our 50 th celebration. Parents are most welcome to pass on their ideas as well and this can be achieved through the P&F, by dropping by the office, sending the school an email or by stopping by to discuss your concept. All contributions are welcome. Help will be needed and we are going to begin with a few simple ‘smartening up tasks’ around the front foyer area. We would like someone, OR a few someone’s with an eye for detail, to reframe and reorder our awards displays and reset them in order please. All items will be supplied. We would also like help with research into the school’s history and the fine tuning of the many photograph albums we have so they can be in good condition for people to browse over when they visit. No specific skills or talents required, just a little enthusiasm please. FINAL ASSEMBLY: This term’s final assembly will start just after 1.30 with a 2.00pm dismissal. We are looking forward to having many families along to view the wide range of Footy Colours Day outfits. The Footy Colours Day cause supports teenagers with cancer by providing life saving support and equipment. I will bravely wear my CATS gear and bear the brunt of North Melbourne banter. Mr J will proudly dress up in his Port Power regalia and I am wondering what colours parents will wear?? It’s time for Mums and Dads to join in the fun and what better way than to also support your team. Continued over page…. Dear Parents and Families: HESKIT SKIPPERS: We were privileged to have the champion Heskit skipping team visit our school today and demonstrate their high levels of fitness and skipping skills. Thankyou Mr Reid for driving all the way to Woodend to collect the team and to take them back again. We were certainly entertained by their impressive array of talents and we wish them all the best for future competitions. 1 / 2 SLEEPOVER: The 1 / 2 sleepover last Friday night was a huge success. Congratulations and thankyou to Mrs Myszka, Mrs Touma, Mr Page, Mary Day, Gemma Aktolga and Maggie Joseski (Michael and Ana’s mother) for making this wonderful opportunity available for our students. I was thoroughly impressed with the delightful behaviour and fascinating comments and responses of our students. Their friendship and teamwork was to be admired as was as their snoring, which resonated throughout the hall foyer. ATHLETICS EXCELLENCE: Qiila Haniman reached the amazing height of 1.35m in the District High Jump this week. He is now off to the Regional finals on October 14 th . Good luck Qiila. He competed against approximately nine other competitors with a starting height of 1.10m and worked his way through six heats. Qiila would like to thank his coaches Mrs Soto, Ibrahim Ali and Mr Page for the time and effort they have put in, to help him get over the bar. Qiila said he could not believe that he had made it into the Regionals and is aiming higher for the State Champs. Congratulations Qiila on your athletics achievement. MEDIBANK PRIVATE – thank you from all at ANPS: Medibank Private are to be congratulated and also thanked for their incredible generosity in providing us with so many valuable resources this week. I would like to pass on my personal thanks to Jacqui and Mary-Rose (Medibank employees) for their complex work and support 'behind the scenes' that facilitated the resources acquisition for our school and community. To Senior Management at Medibank, we applaud your policy decision making in providing resources to community organisations such as ours – most appreciated. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our team of removalists who lifted, shifted, perspired and slaved from as early as 6.00am in the city to as late as 6.00pm one evening to obtain, remove, transport and deliver the resources to our school: REMINDERS: 19th September – End of Term – 2:00pm Dismissal Out of Uniform Day in support of “FOOTY COLOURS DAY” Gold Coin Donation Please. Principal’s report continued: TERM FOUR: Term four commences on Monday the 6th of October with an opening assembly at 8.45am. I am hoping everybody will be on time. Please keep the Wednesday the 8th morning free for a special demonstration of table tennis skills at 9.00am. We have ordered five new table tennis tables for the hall so students can learn this sport and we will be running lunch time table tennis programs for grades 3 to 6 students during the term. On the Wednesday morning there will be a demonstration where staff and students get the opportunity to challenge the table tennis ROBOT. That should be exciting. So, if you have a table at home or at a friends it is time to sharpen your skills. QUOTE for this week: “The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity”. Ellen Parr. Over the holidays see how many times you can facilitate or engage in curious behaviour with your children. HOLIDAY WISHES: The holidays are a great time to walk, talk , learn and play with your children. Enjoy your time together, relish every moment, relax and read, run and play, visit a special place, walk on the beach. There are so many things you can do that require little effort and NO cost which children enjoy. Try a few out and you may be surprised.

Most of all have a safe and enjoyable holiday and have our lovely students ready for a solid term four of school work. Have a great holiday. Brendan O’Brien, Principal.

BE SAFE THESE HOLIDAYS WHEN RIDING A BICYCLE by wearing a helmet, closed-in shoes and bright clothing. Fit bicycles with reflectors, flags and lights. Bicycles need to be kept in good condition with regular safety checks. It is essential to develop riding skills. Ride in designated areas such as bike paths when possible. Children should be at least ten years of age before gaining permission to ride on the road. Cyclists must wear helmets when riding. When choosing a helmet, proper fitting is essential to prevent head injury. Choose only an approved helmet which carries the Standards Australia mark. The fitting of bicycle helmst is important. Ask for assistance when decided upon the size and adjustment of the helmet.
